Stolen mtb agian...ways to stop it

Seriously, what lock and chain were you using before? If I had to keep my bikes outside then the ONLY chain I'd use was an Almax. I have a 1.5m series 3 and I think it would take some cutting even with an angle grinder.

For day-to-day locking up I use a Kryptonite D lock which is about £20.

The other alternative is get an older bike. I have 3 older bikes, a 1966 Raleigh RSW, a 1979 Viscount and a mid 80's Reynolds 531 framed racer. They ride better than a lot of modern bikes, the racer is a lot lighter than a lot of the carbon frame bikes, but more importantly they get left alone. There's 'better' stuff to nick, in the eyes of the thief.

cover them in superglue

or

have some trap door underneath the bikes so when the bikes are removed it opens and they fall in....make sure its filled with poo.

we need good quality cctv to capture this btw :p

Don't forget to put a plastic bag on the seat. That seems to help.

I don't have an "old" bike like Jonny69 does but I don't use my two more expensive bikes anywhere where I'll need to lock them up. My older bike is used in situations like this but even then I'll take two D-Locks and a string lock.

Mind you I am very attached to my bikes (ask the wife!)

Mine are in a bike shed out of view from the passing thief, padlocked door, chained to a ground anchor and then the wheel and frame are chained together. And obviously insured. We also have a dog that goes mental the second someone walks onto our drive (I hesitate to add I didnt get a dog solely for the purpose of protecting the bike!).

If they get it after that then fair play and I'll just claim on the insurance. My solution works for me - to me its the compromise of convenience and security. Storing them indoors just isn't an option for me.

If you can keep it inside do, no matter how well we secured our garden shed and the kid's bike's inside they were stolen.

Bike's were chained together then to a heavy old fashioned petrol lawnmower they took all three.
