It was basically AoE at a modern level ;) - god knows how many hours were put into these two

Get the gold edition OP if you're buying it, it includes Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots which is awesomely hilarious on hard mode if I remember correctly!

After reading this thread im going to have a look at Rise of Nations.

I can also recommend Spellforce, im giving that ago at the mo.

Anyone know what Rise of Legends is like and what AoE3 was like?

men of war (ww2 rts) most indepth rts out there.

Anyone who thinks CoH is hard, should try playing MoW. It is an amazing stratgey game. Probally one of the hardest games out there. The visuals are OK but the game is very deep. I got fed up with CoH and some of its lame gameplay features (and the silly nat errors) and some of the lame stratgies people use. Men of War is far harder, and a lot more satasifying. But the online community is a bit bad.

Most of the players are russians who don't take kindly to noobs. It took me a while to get into this game but I really love it now. Its a bit slow in places but its the kind of game I was looking for, really accurate (with tank slope angles and thickness, weapon size and penetration values etc).

My favourite RTS:
Coh>MoW>RA2

supcom 2 is horrible c an;t even point/formation units :/

SupCom2 and Company of Heroes

And what prey tell did you use unit formations for before?

They were clunky and offered no real tactical use
The units now stack up a lot better in SupCom2, so formations are not important

Example:
If we used the units from SupCom Vanilla in SupCom 2 and you used formations versus the standard role out then formations would lose!

Company of Heroes
Civ 4
Sup Com 1 FA
Rise of Nations
Dawn of War (may be stretching it a bit I guess)

plus more but i can't think of any atm

I am having fun at the moment playing the free version of Battleforge. Very addictive to try and replay the campaign missions to earn extra addon cards. Problem is, you are stuck with the standard 32 cards and have to pay for battleforge points (bfp) to gain better units. However you can upgrade your existing cards.

Also, we want to see:
Age of Mythology 2,
Age of Empires 4 - start the game in stoneage again with dinosaurs- RAWR!
Rise of Nations 2
Company of Heroes 2 (wip methinks?)
Star Wars Total War meets Eve Online and mated with Civ's research - or possibly a decent Star Wars Supreme Commander in Company of Heroes detail & cover system, with Civ 4 /Total War style campaigns?
A zombie-survival defence tower rts?

So I had a big line of units all poin ting one way,. rather than a big square/line pointing the wrong way.

with the first all units can fire at once with the second only half of them can fire because the others are out of range.

Form ing a big square is not "stacking better"

Agree.

Btw, are we talking turn-based or RT strategy in this thread?

I'm looking for a good tb strategy game if there are any out there.

Try any of the Total War series, probably the best turned based stategy series ever made.

There's also Civilisation.
