Licence renewal

You're the one driving about without a valid licence and insurance

Not driving though, not drove since it expired, full of win.

Car is staying on the drive and I am cycling to my destinations ;)

You can still drive in the meantime. The entitlement to drive remains until just before your 70th birthday barring any medical issues, it's just that the physical licence itself has expired. This means that if you had to produce the licence, the old one would be invalid - but even if you were stopped by the police and had to produce a licence, you would be given 7 days minimum to produce it, in which time it's likely you'd have your new licence.

And the £20 fee once every ten years is as much about raising the revenue to maintain the databases, call centres, websites and staff to process the paper applications as it is about a cost to print a new licence with an updated photo.

But £2 a year is nothing compared to the other costs involved in motoring, and why would you expect the DVLA to provide their service for free?

Like has been said, it's the potential insurance implications rather than the expired licence that'll really give you the headache.

If YOU'RE only doing 10 miles a week then wouldn't it make more sense to dump the car, save on insurance, road tax etc.. and just use public transport or taxis, suppose it all depends on your insurance premiums.

I had better start saving 50p a month so I can afford a to renew my Licence and a photo in four years time.

Forward planning for the win but you might want to consider the results of inflation on YOUR target amount - but there again you'll be earning some interest :D

Took me a year to get round to doing mine :p
Must remember to check mine soon, Although it'll be awhile until I can get it renewed;)

I don't understad why people think that 20 GBP for a driving licence or 80 GBP for a passport, as Fox said it's 2GBP per year for the driving licence and if you really can't afford 20GBP to get it updated and are not driving why all the hoo-ha...:confused:

The Passport Application is a bit of a nightmare, even if you want your personal documents returned securely you have to pay extra! It's costing me about £110 in the end because I had to drive to Luton for a Passport Interview to answer a load of questions about me that anyone could find out!

I am paying out a substantial amount of money to go to college and earn a part time wage plus living costs, not everybody on ocuk have wads of cash lying around.

But you have a car?

Get your priorioties right.

Stay legal or get shafted by the rozzers, end of.
