MX-5 (NB) Ownership Thread

Since getting my MR2 I obviously notice similar cars on the road now. Feels like everyone and his dog has an MX5 these days, see them all the time.

That might be why you keep getting pulled. :p I like the look of them on the side. Could be a mod for the future.

Exactly, so im going to have to do something with the front eventually, being delayed 10 minutes for something once a month is getting tiresome.

I have always thought that apart from a mk2.5 conversion or all out bodykit, a front lip and jap style side plate is the way to go.

^ DrDee permabanned? :O

Anyway, minor update: (sorry for rubbish phone pics)

Bought and fitted an ARC intake box and a few other bits and bobs; but no pictures under the hood as the engine bay still looks pretty standard at the moment.

Recently got a mazdaspeed seat off the nutz forum.

Removing the original seat was easy enough, the bolts were a bit stubborn at first but by using the following technique made it fairly easy. Learnt it off this forum thanks to Lopez's thread somewhere.

Although well packed I think the courier dropped the seat as all the seat mounts needed bending into place with an adjustable spanner. Here's the seat fitted:

And finally an exterior shot:

The seat is lower, much more supportive and comfortable. So I'm happy:D

I REALLY want some seats like that. I can never bloody find any  :( Where'd you get them?

edit: I know where you got them, because I can read. Honest. I'm very stupid. Anyway, yeah. Nice :D

Glad the tip came in handy. Make sure you don't let them slip and do yourself a mischief though :) Seats look very smart.

Love your car Dorje. The mods work really. Although I'm after a cheqp fun car, I dunno how I can hold off modding if I get one.

What are your next plans?

Really enjoy your step by step guide through's. Certainly help me, keep up the good work. Just the drivers seat I've replaced, which is probably just as well as passengers seat is a lot more forgiving for people of different waist lines. ;):p

Cheers, I can't see myself doing much more with the exterior. I do have one of those Cabring tow hooks to fit, but it's a bit of hassle on mk2's. Having said that, an AutoExe exhaust has just caught my eye lol :p

I don't really have any immediate big plans for the car really, quite happy atm. However I'll probably upgrade to P5/GAZ suspension in a year or two, that way I can see how they compare from owners experience and my current suspension setup will probably want replacing then anyway.

FI wise I'm not really interested for a few years yet, insurance companies would probably laugh down the phone at my age. For now I'm quite happy thrashing it when I want my laughs, short of a kit car I don't think you could have more fun with 120-140hp.

Edit: As you can see I started to waffle on about mods. In short, no you will not be able to hold off modding a 5. In fact I suspect it is harder to find a standard mk1 than one modified.

Looking very tidy but cant help but think it'd look better with some wheel spacers on!

Thanks and oh me too! I do actually have some spacers in my garage which I picked up locally on the cheap. 20mm on the rear and 10mm for the front, I just need to find out what size lugs the MX5 uses and it should sit a little better in the arches.

Hi Mate,

Lovely MX-5. Where did you buy this Front Lip? I am thinking for getting one for my Miata but so far could not find it UK.

Maybe you could post a link.

Cheers

Quick question to owners of MX-5.

When you drive mx and lets say go with one wheel to sideline of road (the painted one) can you feel it on your steering wheel? or only with the suspension or not at all?

Cheers

Well the revised delivery date for my wifes coupe is 12th May. I pushed back on getting a car from another dealer as I didn't want it driven from dealer A to dealer B so we now get a factory fresh one on 12th May delivered via transporter with 2 miles on the clock. Silly I know but if I but new I don't want 60 miles on the clock because it's been driven from another dealer, I want less than 5 miles because, well, because. :D
