F1 2010 Trailer

What other f1 mods are there for me to taste before this comes out? I am downloading the rfactor 2009 one now, but I am worried I will be terrible. Im really not very good at pure simulations.

Will we likely ever see any mods like new cars for games like shift?

edit: will be using a g25 if that makes a diff.

another 3 vids! well theres still sometime to go till release so hope they make it more sim then arcade! (TBH im waiting for Rfactor 2 hope thats out before this!)

Graphically it is looking pretty good, especially in the rain!

I hope though the clips shown are just the arcade mode. Lap 1/3 no penalty for going off the track and laughably easy to pass other cars. I just hope they put a proper simulation gameplay mode in!

Still fingers crossed, I am keeping an eye on this one.

Posted this link in the console thread:

a lot of the "not racing" bits seem very interesting :D especially the development between and during seasons, hopefully it's not too subtle or OTT

another thing previous post just brought into my mind, shortcut penalties and things... I seriously hope we get flagged/shouted at for overtaking during a shortcut and get drive-throughs and things :D instead of "no revs for 10s cause you hit the grass and skidded over the chicane", oh how I love being punished for screwing up

I think people wanting a simulation to rival rFactor are expecting too much from a game like this, a proper simulation won't sell well enough to be worth it for a company like Codemasters, 90% of people want something that seems real and poses a challenge but that they can still play. Lets face it, a proper simulation of F1 would have most people spinning off every third corner and losing every race which is just no fun.

Hopefully they'll be able to make the engine cater to both but I doubt it, I suspect they'll make it better than GRID was but it'll still need to be accessible so as to appeal to more than a few thousand hardcore sim drivers.

Small games like rFactor and iRacing can survive off of a small dedicated fan base like that but for someone like Codemasters it would just a huge waste of time.

Looking at the vids posted I really hope that's full arcade mode as those physics seemed so unrealistic.

Given Codies past record Sim mode will just make it harder to drive but keep the basic arcade like physics.

They also need to dump Games for Windows Live as it sucks.

Pre-alpha - most people think the physics havent been properly implemented in yet. I love in hope :D

A lot of people though will love this, in my mind the best F1 game was the old F1 for the playstation, it was arcadey, but it appealed to the masses, hopefully like codemasters game will, if its anything like dirt 2 and grid, it will be fun primarily, and thats the main focus for a game.

3 lap races in F1? Really CM? really? Don't force that on us again.

Not sure about the handling, I just hope the guy in that second vid was drunk.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to stick with the existing rFactor F1 mods, which is no bad thing.

It was pre-alpha Arcade mode. You'll be able to choose the race distance. Its just a teaser so chill.

I am really looking forward to this as I don't think anyone has released a f1 game on the pc in years :( Plus Codemasters really hit the nail on the head with their latest game engine and gameplay style. Really looking forward to this!

The sim racing world report has helped to re-assure me no end. While i do not expect (and probably don't want) a 100% racing simulation I want it to be a game with a strong simulation mode ie qualifying sessions (the best part of the F1 weekends to watch on tv imo!), full races, with variable weather, where you need to manage tyres and you can't overtake 3 cars every corner. I think this game has a strong chance of delivering for me!

I have also grown to love career mode in sports games and the structure they can provide. Fingers crossed on this game.

They most certainly aren't at that point, the handling/physics has come on plenty since the F1 2010 reveal event in March :)

For the person who was concerned about 3 lap races, the game will let you race full length races with all the practice sessions, qualifying sessions etc if that is what you want.

If anyone here is on twitter, the chief game designer has an account where he regularly posts and answers questions about the game (www.twitter.com/T4RG4), might be useful following him if you are looking out for F1 2010 info.

We've recently released some previously print exclusive screens, I'll post them up here for anyone interested:

They have the F1 official license, access to telemetry data and an F1 test driver. I am praying this will at least have the option to be a total simulation with realistic physics and handling.
