Asus rampage III Extreme

Helios....is it worth moving from a Classified 759 to this. I'm only ever going to run 2 cards, so having 3x16x lanes on the classified is no benefit. And the Rampage should run cooler over no nforce200 chipset. The only advantage the Classified has for me is the fact the pci-e 1x slot for the soundcard is at the top of the board whereas on the Rampage it's between the gpu slots. While this makes no difference using stock dual slot gpu's as the spacing is still very good, I am hoping to get 2 Asus Ares at some stage which takes 3 slots a piece.

You mean the £1000 ASUS Ares?? If you're really thinking about them, then I can see the layout of the Rampage being ideal. The first card would cover the first and second pciex16 slot and the pciex4 slot will be available for your sound card. The second card can then go into the third pciex16 slot as it was intended to be used.

But the classified is already a tremendous board as it is. Saying that, if you sell it, you will still make a lot of money that could help you get the R3E. The main selling point is the whole ROG functionality over the classified and if you think that will suit your needs, then go for it. It also has USB3 and SATA III. In terms of performance, the R3E is probably no better than the classified.

As long as you can offset the cost by selling the classified and you think those features will come in handy, then get one. For performance and overclocking I'm not sure, not having used the classified myself.

EDIT: I just noticed your Crucial SSDs. I imagine SATA III will be useful for those!

:( starting to loose patience now, I wish ASUS would stop faffing about with competitions and displays and just put the thing on shelves :o. It's not building hype it's just getting annoying :(.

Cheers mate. Some good advice and lots to think about. My crucials actually went wallop. Well 1 did. The other lost performance and couldn't get it back. Very similar to what happened Anand. Sent them back and I now have Corsair Force 200gig SSD's. I honestly don't think SAT6GB/s will matter much on 1st gen SSD's using that tech. All the reviews I have seen show the marvel controller being outpaced by intels native. USB3 though would be nice. The interesting thing is, I picked up the Classified from a friend leaving the country and paid around 150 euro for it, probably less as he bundled stuff with it.

this thing already has enough hype, it doesnt need any more.

Release now it, or Vortx will suffer :(

Stop threatening me :p Now there are rumours that ASUS plan to release it NEXT week, and now ASUS have also said it should be global by 30th of April, starting to take the **** now considering ASUS initially said end of March as Cebit.

EDIT: I will add some hope though, a member of ROG has come out on the Xtreme Systems forum to say that the boared will be available in germany by the end of this week.

What does this mean for US release Implications?

From what I've heard there was a couple of delays in manufacture, but that's been resolved and stock should be shipping shortly.

Flanno, Ares is a little way off yet from what I hear. However 5870 Matrix should be available around the start of May - Stay tuned for some reviews. :)

Thanks -VK-. I don't mind waiting. Gives me a chance to save the cash though knowing me I will probably be tempted by the Matrix unless ATI launch the 5890.
