Where to buy QUALITY car maintenance tools

Britool, Facom, Beta
I've got some Facom drivers. I don't like the way they look but I have to admit they are bulletproof.

I'd remove Britool from that list if i were you...the Mac Tools van that comes to us now has Britool/Facom/Stanley/etc (all owned by Stanley) and he had a set of Britool spanners on offer and on display, they looked sooo cheap, nothing like tha Britool stuff i have from 15+ years ago.
:)
Britool do a budget range that they sell at Screwfix. Yes they are total crap, I bought some and returned them immediately, but their pro range is great.

Yes, an an amature

but as a pro

snap on
I know pro's that use Halfords Pro kit. They got fed up with the Snap-On stuff breaking and then having to argue constantly to get it replaced. Snap-On looks great but I hear so many people moaning about it not being up to quality.

He buys them because he uses them 60+ hours per week to make a living.

I use my tools (made up number here)hours per week to make a living.

And i didnt waste far too much money on snap-on rip off merchants.

I have had halford tools outlast snap on tools let alone any of the stuff from sealey, draper or mac.

Snap on van comes round every Tuesday..
"Anything you want lads"
"yea, bust this, can I have a new one"
"Yep here you go"

When Halfords start coming round to my workplace to offer that no quibble on the doorstep service, I'd probably buy some.
NEVER had to quibble over it's usage.

P.s, in 5 years constant use, 50 hrs a week I've never split a socket.
Ballsed up the ratchet mechanism in one 1/4 drive ratchet trying to undo something I should have been using 3/8 kit on and I think my 1/2 impact drive wobble socket has let go once or twice and that's it!

+1, except he comes to us on a monday :D. Had hassle returning Mac stuff and Beta stuff, Snap On has always been repaired or replaced there and then unless he doesn't have whats needed with him.
:)

Dad was bought a Snap on 3/8th ratchet for his 12th bday, it broke the other week....Snap On van came round that day (coincidence), they repaired it on the spot. (Dads is now 47)

And trust me, that ratchet gets used......a lot. (slight understatement here). 99% of Dad's tools are Snap on, they never break, and they get some serious abuse. I'd like Snap on.....I can't afford it though :p, got some Smogsy tools which I've used when I can't use Dads, they haven't broken 'yet' but I've only used them properly a few times.

Britool, Facom, Beta

Same quality as snap-on and mac but without the crazy costs..

have a look on tooled-up.com

These.

I use FACOM and Mac tools at honda.

I laugh at the halfords suggestion, they wouldn't last two weeks of serious use. I hope they have lifetime warranty? You'll need it when you keep taking broken parts back.

Simply clueless!

As per my dealings with Snap On.

Yeah, because it has "Halfords" on it, it'll be crap, right?

I absolutely refuse to buy into the brand name hype. My Halfords tools have served me very, very well and I am more than happy earning my living with them (Truth be told, I actually think I prefer my Halfords ratchets to the Snap On stuff I've used).

as you've just been told

you pay for the door to door excellent customer service more than anything.

When most of the trade use them, they've got to be doing something right. Not everybody would buy overpriced junk just for the name.

And quality, tool for tool it is rare to find anything made better by another manufacturer. A cast iron no quibble warranty also helps!

YEP. got it in one.

You probably don't do significant work, just an oil and plugs change.

Halfords stuff crumbles to dust with Trade/Motor manufacture work/Constant use.

It is this sort of attitude that allows Snap-On to charge the prices that they do :p.

Not sure about that - I can't comment on trade use of Halfords stuff (we had a mixture of Facom, Britool, King Dick and Snap On - mainly Facom) but I've taken several cars down to bits and rebuild a couple with Halfords gear and no complaints.

My mate is a mechanic for a Honda main dealer, worked there for about 4 years and a lot of his tools are Halfords Pro range and he has no problems.

You do realise that Halfords pro tools are made by FACOM, with the exception of the ratchets.
And yes they have a lifetime warranty to boot.

As others have said with snap on your only buying into the name and the call out warranty.
You can compare SnapOn to Dell pc's, there not the best or cheapest but they offer the best solutions to business's.
