is it me or are some of the new good games not on pc?

Ah the lets blame EA squad has appeared. You do realize that EA, out of all of the big publishers, release more titles for the PC and, in terms of porting, of a higher quality i hope?

If it wasn't for EA, Mass Effect would have never been released on the PC, Crysis wouldn't have had such massive funding, Battlefield 2 and Bad Company 2 wouldn't be around, Dead Space, Mirrors Edge and Dragon Age (a game heralded as the return of 'proper' RPGs) would also not be there for you to play.

But yeah, it's clearly all EAs fault the PC doesn't get many titles isn't it?

[EDIT] Also, you blame Sony for there not being any risky titles. You need to do some more research as some of the most 'risky' titles have been developed and published by Sony for the playstatopn. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are unlike anything you'll ever play, Heavy Rain again is an incredibly niche genre. There's loads of different, interesting and unique games available for the PS3, most of which have been developed by Sony.

microsoft dont help any they should remember what made them all the money because it wasnt xboxs

it definately wasnt PC games either, so you'v made a **** point there.

Its a good thing that PC games got more user friendly, thats possibly why PC games were never massively popular in the first place.

EA's weird they seem to put their name hugely on the crappy sports games but anything good they hide their logos etc in a corner :p

Aye i don't get it either. When you tell people Dead Space was developed by EA it usually results in surprise. Another one EA should have shouted from the highest mountains was that they ported Mass Effect over to the PC after they had bought Bioware, previously Microsoft published it and weren't going to release a PC version at all, again very few people seem to realise this.

why did EA buy them all up and then destroy them?

look at the games those companies made , now note the types of games.

now how many of those types of games do we see in the last few years?

its not just EA whos guilty of buying epic devlopers up and then killing them.

its no surprise that we get no inovative games anymore when all the people who used to make them are no longer around instead we have big companies who only care for the same few types of games they know will be dumbed down enough to have mass market apeal

you cant honestly tell me EA didnt play a major part in the pc gaming decline.

t definately wasnt PC games either, so you'v made a **** point there.
it wasnt pc games but a large part of windows beeing so popular in the 90s was games

if the pc gaming scene did ever fully die most people would probaly switch to imac ^^

I can honestly tell you that because they're one of the few big developers left holding it afloat. They aren't some evil overlord, obsessed with ruining your games, they're a business and will ultimately always concentrate on money.

They dissolved those studios because they were no longer producing quality titles at a decent pace. Examples:

Look at Origin Systems, it was five years between the release of their last title Ultima IX: Ascension (which was rubbish) and being dissolved by EA. They had five years after the release of a poor product to make good and they failed, they didn't produce anything at all. Disbanded and fair enough imo (the mentalist in charge had lost his spark by then anyway, tabula rasa, his latest project, was also rubbish)

Westwood were again killed off because of a rubbish title: Renegade. With that said the majority of the staff were simply moved over to a different, larger development studio to continue working on the command and conquer franchise. Imo C&C has been dead since Red Alert 2, everything after that has been rubbish, Red Alert 2 was developed within EA.

Bullfrog is the only one of those i was sad to see go. With that said, when was the last time they made a truely good title? Imo it was Dungeon Keeper 2, in 1999. They were dissolved in 2004, three years after the release of Theme Park Inc, another disappointing title from a developer that was once great. Again they had three years to make good after the release of a poor title, they produced nothing in that time.

its no surprise that we get no inovative games anymore when all the people who used to make them are no longer around instead we have big companies who only care for the same few types of games they know will be dumbed down enough to have mass market apeal

Do yourself a favour, watch some videos (and i mean really watch them, these are games that shouldn't be missed) of Heavy Rain, Shadow of the Colossus, Little Big Planet, Demon's Souls and Dragon Age: Origins, all very innovative, interesting and most importantly fantastic titles that have been released relatively recently (with the exception of SotC which is quite old now, but the sequel is coming soon).

No no, EA are evil, because they have money, M$ are evil, because they have money, infact anyone who makes money is evil because they still want to make more money, shocking behaviour. :p

As said, Westwood were on the decline, Renegade was actually good, it was like many more modern FPS's where the single player is an afterthought to the multiplayer but it was among the earlier games to do so. The Single player was basically a tutorial with some fantastically bad cutscenes and some really dodgey storylines, but it was actually a bit of a laugh, well a novelty more than anything as fans of C&C could play it in first person.

The multiplayer was actually pretty damn awesome with some great idea's, some great people who played it and some innovative idea's on the multiplayer side.

But idea's get stale, EA didn't make the C&C franchise stale, the idea being old and done to death made it stale. People seem to have this idea that you get a single group of people together and make a great game, somehow they will continue making a brand new exciting and up to date game every few years without fail, it doesn't happen. C&C was great(mostly) through to Generals, they tried to move it on, everything at that time was all about the 3d, and it was awful, though loads of people liked it. They've since tried to recapture the old glory but with likely less of the best guys, because often people make money on a great few games, and retire rich and happy. I think one of the worst things about the latest C&C's were rehashing the same old story, Kane didn't die he still wants to do something retarded, but after cheating death a few times and constantly managing to build a world ending empire quietly in secret before doing something daft, well the idea was old the 3rd time it happened, its so old its boring now. Where it should be new and original, in the story and idea's, its stale, then with units, they insist on making something new for the sake of being new, while ignoring if the units are fun to use, and introducing new play styles like C&C 4, for no reason other than they think it should be new.

They should have stuck with the old gameplay, and put it with a great new story, and good maps, dozens of game companies make the same mistake, those under EA's banner, and those all over the place. Fable 2 is almost a complete rehash of Fable 1 in terms of almost the entire story and way the game plays out, thank god I'd never played the first game before I played Fable 2, or I'd have been bitterly dissappointed. Developers tend to do that in general as idea's are hard to come by, and people don't let go of a good one when they get it, even when they should.

I think Bullfrog suffered from the same thing, kept trying to make new versions of the same games but with few changes.

For me, HL2 was no where near as good as HL1, and the episodic content has been terrible in comparison to them both, its mostly rehashing the same crap over and over again, thats what a LOT of developers get stuck in, they have one great idea/style of game, and they stick with it till everyone is bored to tears with it.

Consoles are just too dumbed down for the average PC enthusiast.

This again

Go play Demon's Souls and then come back and see if you feel the same way.

Both of those games you listed are also console games btw, which sold very well on consoles, surprising seeing as console games are generally so dumbed down eh. I'm surprised their heads didn't explode from the complexity when they played Dragon Age.

Some games are better on console game play wise. I find bad company 2 better on console cause theres less snipers, better team work, and people and more people use voice comms.

Its defentily a myth that console players, are dumb and less skilled compaired to their pc rivals. It take much more skill to play on a pad then a mouse and keyboard.

Some console games are dumbed down but there is a much bigger market to aim for.

Why is it that none of these games are on the PC??? Fable 2 and 3 for example are only Xbox..

I really want Fable 2 on PC, i played the special edition version for the first Fable on PC and i loved it more than playing it on the Xbox and Fable 3? Didn't know there was one.

Edit: Just read up on Fable 3, didn't realise it was coming out this year.

Besides you'd be lucky to find any PC games in some shops now.

Yea im nearest Game store stopped selling them, until Borders closed down
Also my nearest HMV was being slightly renovated, the only thing they sacrificed was Merchandise and PC games.

And any other stores i know of in Leeds are getting ridiculously small, i think bargain bins will beat them soon?

Although i'd welcome more console ports, even if it required a controller.

Sorry state of affairs, my favourite local PC shop stopped stocking PC Games too and they were awesome for second hand games, although I can see why they stopped selling games that used to cost £2 and such.
