Mouse for gaming <£40 but with 1000 to 3200dpi

Do these gaming mice make that much difference, especially for less frequent (i.e. less skilled) gamers?
You raise the sensitivity of the mouse, you need to drop the sensitivity of the game. High DPI does not = better, 400dpi is perfectly usable with the right game sensitivity.

Gaming mice might be built better (but they are still plastic shells).

Might have better ergonomics for your kind of play. Maybe you also need the extra buttons and DPI switching/LED glow colour fiddling.

I'm going to get round to buying a Microsoft Basic Optical to replace the one I replaced with a Steelseries Kinzu. Scroll wheel is too stiff and some notches are firmer than others. Can't be having with that kind of unreliability. Brand name means nothing to me.

will a good mouse stop my mouse lag in BC2? when snipeing i see my cross jump across 10-20 pixels. Yes its that bad...ad its VERY noticeable in zoom. Gets quite annoying.

@marc I also get this and I use a Razor dethadder with highest DPI on.

Its either the game or your frame rate being poop.

it must be the game, frame rate is fine, always above 30

loaded up css and MW1 and the mouse i have atm does not jump at all. smooth. I wish BC2 was like that :(

DPI is only really useful when you need extreme accuracy, and above a certain point, it really doesn't matter that much. High DPI is technically better than a lower one, but unless you're going to be sniping at a 100x zoom, it really isn't needed.

For example, say you had a mouse with 100DPI. This means at a "normal" sensitivity, moving your mouse by one inch would move the cursor by 100 pixels. Now that might be quite slow, so you'd use a higher sensitivity of, say, 3 pixels per dot. Now, one inch of movement would mean 300 pixels of cursor movement - however, the cursor would move in "jumps" of 3 pixels at a time, and if you needed to get accuracy down to a single pixel, that wouldn't work. Now if you had a mouse with 300DPI, you could get the same speed of movement, while also having the accuracy of moving the cursor by 1 pixel at a time. Like I said, this is incredibly accurate and mostly not required. These ridiculous DPI's of 5700 would never be practical at a 1:1 sensitivity unless you have amazing accuracy.

Marc - your problem sounds like what I described (very low DPI, high sensitivity), but I'm betting it isn't. It could be anything, and I'd pin it on the game rather than the mouse.

well my mouse is 800 DPI. Thats its only setting. Its the logitech mx500 i think. Or the older model.
I have a friend who has the coolermaster mouse. It has a lot smoother movement in BC2. It does jump but not as much as my current game/mouse.

Just checked and all of my mice are only 400 DPI. The older versions of the same mice were 800 DPI but there's been some cost cutting on the designs as I replaced what appeared to be like to like.

I think I'll try one around the 800 - 1000 DPI range to see if it makes much difference.

Roccat Kone V2 ( abit extra but a lot of good reviews and iv previously had a quick shot on one and i loved it. But its the extra money whats putting me off it :( )
Aye, been looking at the roccat range and so very tempted by the kone as well, i think i'm a sucker for the gimmicks and lights..
