DCS:- Black Shark only £11 on D2D!

Why on earth would you want to use TIR2 in a modern sim with a 6DOF cockpit?

To look around with, why wouldn't I want to use it? I don't need 6DoF.

You might as well fly using the mouse and/or stick hat to control views.

Don't be ridiculous, that's an inane comment to make. Head tracking versus hat switch or mouse controls, please.

Moaning that ED don't support outdated and obsolete hardware is just as bad as moaning at MS etc for not doing the same with new OS versions.

No, no it's not, they have locked it out for no other reason than money, it still works as well as it ever did, they've had to make an additional effort to lock it out.

Hardware becomes obsolete over time, that's life.

Indeed, but the hardware still works and worked until they made the choice to lock it out, give me one good reason for them doing so that excludes money.

Do yourself a favour and buy a TIR4/5, the new funtionality and improved performance is more than worth the money.

No doubt, but I have better things to spend my money on currently and why should I when my current unit works just fine after removing the stupid lock they put in?

Just to clear this up...

In order to implement 6DoF, using Naturalpoints proprietary API (There is no directx/directinput for head tracking), ED was legally obliged to follow NPs whims as to what devices could interface with the API. There is no benefit to ED in restricting the devices that can be used. IIRC ED had to pull a 6DoF SDK because NP invoked a clause in their contract.

IMO it is a product of NP trying to restrict the market (as they have a monopoly) and NP having good lawyers.

Anyway I think you can use your TIR2 with Freetrack, you get 6DOF for free. :)

I thought that sort of thing was against the law in the US?

I've got it working in sim without 6dof which is fine.

It should be , stopping people from using a earlier version of NP`s own product is so wrong.
I Can sort of understand there issue with freetrack, but you pay for what you get and homebrew freetrack setups done properly can cost 60-80 quid.
Wouldnt you want a pro package/software for a few quid more?

She's a big wollowing beast isn't she? Or is it my control(s) causing oscillation while doing simple transitions?

Nate--IRL-- at this moment which is your flavour BlackShark or LockOn: Flaming Cliffs 2 out of curiosity ?

These days I'm re-learning how to fly and fight in the Su-25/T, it's actually quite a change from stalking prey in the Shark, I feel much more exposed in the Frog.

Do they have the patch on D2D?

I think the patch on the DCS website is the one to use. I'll let Dj_Jester reply as I think this is what he did.

Well you are balancing 10 tons of metal and fuel on a cushion of air :) In order to fly smoothly, understanding the trim system is vital. Personally I fly with the Flight Director on if I have to manoeuvre a lot. You'll get the hang of it eventually, meanwhile here is something to aspire to.........

The su 25t is amazing. The a10a is a pussycat compared. It has such a varied loadout just learning how they all work is a challenge.

It certainly makes you understand why Kamov halted production of the KA-50 and switched it to the two seat KA-52. Acting as both pilot and gunner in an attack helo just places too high a workload on the pilot, even with the added automation.

Think I'll wait for DCS A10C, Blackshark will probably give me a nosebleed.

I'll get around to doing the tutorials at some point, discovered the autopilot settings this morning, makes things a lot less stable but far less wallow :)

Ha, just saw this while looking through BS videos on Youtube :)

Kinda like a Russian version of Airwolf lol. :)

Words just can't begin to describe the awesome! :)

I linked to it in another post, but it is well worth another mention - BS Auto Pilot description and operation

IMO it explains the Autopilot better than the manual.

Just purchased.

What have I let myself in for.

Welcome aboard Gimpy, any questions, just ask....
