Got a spare machine

Ok cool - so your one does use DDR 2 - 400MHz (ie. PC2-3200) stuff at the minute. If you want an upgrade - your board does support DDR2 PC2-4200 (ie 533MHz) stuff, which will be a bit faster.

I would suggest upgrading to a DDR2 PC2-4200 2GB (2x1GB) kit if you want to give your memory a boost. A kit like this is generally pretty easy to find using Google, unfortunately OCUK doesn't sell this RAM any more (unless you want to risk going for a faster-rated 800MHz kit and hoping it defaults to 533MHz or slower when inserted).

PC3200 is DDR, not DDR2.

edit. sorry your gap between DDR and the number 2 confused me, you mean 200-400mhz?

the slowest DDR2 memory released was 5300.

I don't think he typed 3200 incorrectly, so I'm 99.9% sure its DDR.

I suppose the OP would be best to post a screenshot of the CPU-Z memory tab to put this to bed once and for all.

However if you look at the link I posted and the "Shopping" section in particular DDR2 RAM with the designation PC2-3200 do seem to be available. So it is concievable that the OP has RAM such as this.

the slowest DDR2 memory released was 5300.

This can't be right, I for one have bought and installed PC2-4200 (533MHz ) RAM myself, unless I was hallucinating or something.

I don't think he typed 3200 incorrectly

Me too :D

My 5770 came with a molex power adaptor, so the 5750 should :)

Aye, exactly. Anyway, even if they the OP could pick up this when he buys the card for £3.17.

However, the problem as I see it is the PSU itself. It is only rated to 305W, and may not handle a new graphics card. Especially considering something like the 5750 consumes 86W at load - it may be cutting it fine.

ok ive got some ddr ram and it doesnt fit, pins are a lil out and crap and cpuz says its ddr2, i have a 500w psu from my old pc should that be ok size wise?

Looking at this it appears that the PSU might actually be a standard ATX. Would you be able to confirm this? (ie is the profile (height/width) of the dell PSU the same as your 500W one?).

psu is the same size so ile try and swap them out in the morning, this would give me enougth power for the new gfx card and enougth molex's

its just one from a case i got from my old pc, i also have a 450w one made by winpower (dno were i picked that up from) but it looks new.

I'm not sure if I can in clear conscience recommend you install one of those PSUs in you machine (assuming the 500W one is a no-brand also). The received wisdom is that the PSU is the most important piece of kit in your machine - if it dies - nothing works and it may kill other components on its way down (and in extreme cases smoke and even catch fire). It is always worth investing in a good PSU, even for a cheap system like you are building - a good PSU will power the system well and can be carried over into future machines.

I would suggest giving this one a look. Its cheap, but it is also good quality - here is a review. With that system and PSU, you should be fine running anything up to a 4850 or 5770 on it.
