Macbook Pro - buy now, or wait?

Not got a link? Was gonna get the mini DP to DVI one but the HDMI version would be better as I can put it into my HDMI switch

ps3ud0

I bought this one. There's a lot of companies rebadging the same Chinese product.

Good news: My custom 13.3" MBP has shipped. :D
Bad news: Estimated arrival date is 5th May!!!:mad::mad:

Well generally those estimates are longer than they normally take but at the moment I reckon you'll be lucky if you get it for then.

Why can't we just take the order form down to an Apple store and pick one up? (Stock setup btw). They didn't tell me the shipping date on the phone until after I had paid :(

I;m running an nc20, and had my eyes on the macbook pro 13 for a long time, noticed that the price has always stayed consistent, and rarely ever come down (only checked amazon).. can get good deals if you buy 2nd hand though.. From the previous mavbook 13 and to the macbook pro 13, there isn't a huge difference, some say the built quality is inferior, and say they prefer the connectivity of previous macbook 13. I doubt improvements will be significant enough for you to not buy now, and hold out 6-8 months.. If you really want it, you could be now, and sell it 2nd hand for 200 or so quid less and buy the newer model.

15" MBP dispatched today.
Estimated delivery 4th May.

Same for Me, Estimated delivery 5th May.

On a seperate topic, did everyone spot that you can effectively get a *free* printer with a HE macbook purchase? I missed out which has naffed me off a bit, I don't need one but I don't like to miss out on free stuff:(

Mine now says 'Natural Disaster' in Shanghai on the UPS tracking site :D

Somehow I don't think I'll get it tomorrow ;)

It wouldn't let me pick the HP Photosmart so had to go for the next one up.

Macs hold their value better than PCs as the supply is more limited on the used market and not everyone can afford to buy new.

My 2006 MBP is still worth £400. An equivalent age/spec Windows laptop such as an IBM T60 is around £220.

Do MacBooks hold their value well? Seriously considering one of the new Pros...

Just have a look around eBay, generally anything with an Apple logo tends to do very well second hand, I guess its because the new stuff costs so much and hardware specs aren't too important as you always know that it will run fairly well.

Even if you smash up your laptop out of warranty and lose the Hard drive somehow, you can still recoup some money by selling it on.

So who thinks the £160 for a 5% difference between the 2.53 i5 and the 2.66 i7 on the 17" MBP is worth it?

It's a tough one, given reports that i7 dones't perform that much faster in real world tests. But the i7 will turbo to 3.33 compared to 3.06 on the i5.

Plus, you get 512 MB of Video ram, i5 only has 256.

I went with i7/17"/8GB. Otherwise you'd have a nagging feeling 'i wonder if this would have been better with the i7' etc

Also, you can upgrade ram/had but not the proc, so get the best you can to start.
