Macbook Pro - buy now, or wait?

I doubt its 5% between an i5 and i7 with similar clocks (working out the percentage difference by clock speed isnt a great masure at all - otherwise I want my Prescott back :p) - though it entirely depends on what apps you want to use/multi-task with and if those time savings are worth paying the extra...

If I was getting a 17" Id get the best spec going since its likely to be a DTR...

Google away ;)

Yeah I thought compaing them ghz to ghz might not be the best measurement. But on intels site the only difference I can see is a 130mhz speed difference :-

I5 : http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47341
I7 : http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=48139

And what does DTR mean?

Finally took the plunge after cancelling my order 3 times because I couldn't decide on the specs, now feeling a little light headed after speading so much money on a laptop, so hope I don't regret it =) going have to try and make it last about 5 years now so not to feel majorly out of pocket :D

Went for the i7, 7200rpm, HR anti-glare.

Was umming and arring about glossy or anti-glare for way too long but these pictures made up my mind for me, plus I think the glossy would really get on my wick after the novelty wears off.

I'm starting to come round to the silver around the edge instead of black, looks smart. But doesn't look like it's going to arrive anytime soon with this volcano kicking off.

Desktop Replacement. Definitely look at the CPU sub-forum as theyll probably give you performance measures between the two chips (obviously just using Turbo mode for overclocking) to help - Ive been too far out of the game to care which one is top anymore...

Might be worth looking at in real-life as well - Im still juggling the same decision and waiting for my sisters to come first before I decide. Head says Matte, but Heart warns me of that lip...

Going to try swing past apple retail at some point this week, but I have no doubt that the high res glossy will look stunning but I'd rather have the peace of mind of not worrying about where I use the laptop, especially with summer approaching :) and as my useage is fairly high I think my eyes will be more grateful over time too. But I don't think you can go wrong with either screen really.

My old dell has a lip and has never caused any problems and that's several years old now with a lesser build quality.

Dont like the idea its a privacy screen when you look at it off centre - would be a pain to show people stuff on the laptop...

Well I'm hoping it's something that can be removed and replaced easily, so if I decide to use my Macbook outdoors one day it's easy to attach use, then when I'm back in door switch back to the glossy screen.

What's the advantage of a glossy screen over a matt screen anyway? :s

With the glossy screen, it's almost like a mirror using it outside.

I came to the conclusion after much deliberation (borderline over thinking) of no great practical advantage but if you want more of a wow factor go for the glossy. My friends got the glossy and it's a lovely screen to look at but he does say high light situations can be a pain and put simply, when spending over £1000 for a laptop I don't think I could handle anything which may cause annoyance.

Yeah - just the HE uplift on warranty AFAIK, so easily in stock to be shiiped - says nothing on tracking where its coming from though...

Glad its coming - I have it to play til Bank Hol and decide on the whole Glossy vs Matte debate...
