Icelandic Volcanic Eruption - Significant Disruption to UK Flights

HMS Ocean, Albion and Ark Royal are pretty huge though. Not only in there the flight deck, but there are the aircraft hangars also. I've been on both Illustrious and Ocean, and if you remove the aircraft, there is plenty of space on them!

So about a day then if we were to use ports that are closer to the tips of the country, and yes I would assume they will use the air craft holds and will set up a mini tent city in there

Exactly. Just got loads of portable loos in the hangers. It's only <1 day journey anyway. Jeeez.

I chose Santander as that's where the BBC article said some troops were.

It's simple though, with his predicted growth of the UK economy, the NHS would be able to afford the massive increase in demand for psychoactive medication and the population would drop as people threw themselves off bridges. It's a win-win situation.

BBC News 24 reporting that seismologists have said that the eruptions have diminished markedly and the volcano is spewing siginificantly less ash.

The Ash is just off the coast of America/Canada :o

Bet you the Yanks just ignore it and fly anyway

You think with the US sueing culture that if a plane went down and killed everyone on it that there wouldnt be a massive law suit persuing all involved that let the plane fly whilst ignoring all the safety warnings ?

Sue who exactly? If the FAA say it is safe to fly, it is safe to fly
I expect the Yanks to get some proper readings also rather than just use computer models

From the media reports I thought it was the airlines that wanted to fly and were putting pressure on the government to allow them to? Have the test flights shown it to be worse than the airlines thought?

We are not allowed to put up any aircraft and neither will Ryanair because we have twin engined aircraft. The CAA won't allow it, so for know we won't know the effect on a 737 or 320.

The airlines want to fly. The government wants the airlines to fly. The aviation authorities want the airlines to fly. Pilots want to fly. Passengers want to fly.

Everyone who wants to fly wants someone else to make the call that flying should be allowed. Nobody is going to stand up to make that call out of fear or because they perceive such a judgement to be above their salary.

Exactly, everyone is waiting for someone else to make the call. The testing should be done by our govenment in conjunction with the CAA, rather than letting airlines play about sending planes up.

We still haven't got any clarity regarding what the government is doing to get airspace open
