Heroes of Newerth

It depends on the situation but generally being that far away from your own tower leaves you open to ganks etc. Unless you have a heavy pusher on your lane then its best to sit back as far as you can early game.

I seem to be open for ganks even if I am sitting beside my own tower :(

edit: I previously avoided the "Premium Guides" section of their forums as in my head Premium meant you had to pay for it somehow, so I didnt bother even looking. Turns out you don't have to pay a thing, and theres loads of nice things to read there.

as the guy above said, it leaves you open to ganks, which early game leads to feeding.

for instance if they have ranged units, and your melee, you want to be sat on your tower. but if your ranged and they are melee, you can afford to push.

and yes the wards can be destroyed by the enemy when they see them.

the premium guides might not have been updated so make sure they have. often a guide can be good one patch but completely useless the next as items change aswells as characters.

i use the miniguides section now, keeps updated and is just a quick reference if ive forgotten the best items. usually works well.

Oh, so you dont want to push the enemy back to their tower? I figured it was a good idea so the creeps could start beating on it. Whoops.

Can wards be killed? Like the Ward of Sight things (200g I think?), not the ability wards.

Generally for the first while in the game the creeps get taken out really quickly by towers. You only want to get the very last hit on your creeps to deny them or on their creeps for the gold.

The further you push away from your tower the easier it is for you to get ganked and harder it is to gank the opposite team. If they are right beside their tower you will get hit by it when trying to gank them.

The perfect scenario at the start of the game is to be just in front of your tower, just far enough enough away so the tower is not killing the creeps.

Just to add to that, what you will see people doing at the start of the game is walking in front of creep waves to slow them down so they meet/clash closer to your own tower.
Basically you just start ahead of the creeps and stand directly in the path of the front creep and briefly stop, then move forward and repeat as much as possible until they outrun/run around you.

Well played again some more last night as plague rider, damn though people take it too seriously and there is such a presence of 'courage.com' on show it's uncomfortable for me.

Test patch tomorrow with the next hero http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=104027

And matchmaking update/reset soon.
http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=103867
The planned updates are aimed at fixing the following issues:
- Players who are far above or below the average player base in rating will be able to find games more quickly and more reliably
- Players will be able to specify their general experience level the first time they play match making. This will help the system more accurately group players together when they first start (afterall, a 1500 player might be a dota veteran or a completely new player)
- A provisional-matches system will be in place that will cause the system to be more likely to group players new to match making together. Once you play your provisional games, you'll be more likely to only be playing with other players who have also completed their provisional games
- Players who disconnect or drop during loading will be replaced more reliably and more quickly

What are you struggling with in terms of accessibility? Maybe I can point you in the right direction.

And a damn shame on the MM stat reset.. I've got about 70% win percentage.

How on earth did you manage that?

The only way to reliably win MM games is to play a carry/semicarry middle and crush the side lanes.
Weapon of choice is CD or SS, CD being the ultimate mid laner. Pyro and hag work too.

If you want to get into the game more, you have to play more, read more, and watch how "better" players play (replays).
Mods help too.
You'll need mod manager: http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=25883
And these mods are essential IMO.

Luck and skill. I'm a bit nifty with Puppet (I usually always get my pick as he seems to be underestimated/played poorly) and work with my team rather than against them and mostly people are happy to do the same. So I evaluate the skills of the team before picks and then ask the best player to take a combo char to lane with me. I don't really care what mid does as I can level just as fast in a lane while massively hindering 2 of the enemy team, maximising my impact as puppet.

My combo char will usually take all of the CK and be massively farmed, if you let swift or another equally dangerous combo lane like that it's very difficult to lose mid-game, especially if they are a skilled player.

It's basically just stacking all of the forces in my favour. It's not full-proof, but it does work.

Just as a side note, I don't use any mods. All I have is the HP bars on all the time on the ui.

It alright being a good carry and winning, i did it with Zeph but sometimes its impossible especially with the amount of new people playing and people who disconnect. A farned Zeph cant solo 4 or 5 fed heroes. No mods here either.

Rather enjoying Chipper and Slither, I think of the two Chipper is my favorite, the Ulti is pretty damn efficient if you can jungle up a few stacks of creeps, then bunch em, tar and nuke. I dont get much milage out of it vs enemy heroes though, its too easy to sidestep. Its alright to toss down perpendicular to their line of retreat though, they seem to panic and try going round it instead, and then you just fire 3 rockets in their face.

Oh yes, speaking of rockets, they're awesome :D Massive range! Managed to snipe off a hero last night who had no health left and was retreating a good screen legnth away. He ragequit! :D

But yeah, a bit sucky at the start, seems you cant do a whole lot till you get Nomes or some other Mana items.

Definately buying this game. Absolutely love it!
