The future of Aion

I'm subbed up until February, not too sure if i'll continue it.

I've got a lvl 35 Gladiator, just got a whole bunch of quests that, if i'm lucky, will give me half a level. There isn't enough quests to take you from level to level and the grinding is mind numbing.

Im a decent guild but those who work for a living are around lvl 30 and those who don't (scummers, school kids, students) are level 45+.

I like the crafting (albeit expensive) and the PVP is ok, i play with a group and have had some decent small skirmishes, although the majority seems to be gank fests.

The updates mentioned do very little for me, i don't want new graphics or extras like housing and mounts, i'd like them to fix the (what i consider) core things.

I was also under the impression that Quests were simply not in enough quantity to sustain levelling without some sort of grinding, however if you look at quests within the Abyss, Belusian and Morheim theres actually plenty to do. It also depends on the time you have available, but if the game doesnt do enough to pull you in constantly then levelling can be laborious!.. i'm sure that gave most quests an XP boost after the last patch ? maybe someone can confirm ?

I'm quite sure the game will progress and improve over the coming months and key problems will get attention, however me being selfish I just want my goddamn flying frakin pets !!!!!

There was an XP boost to some quests in the last patch, I saw a sheet of which quests and what the changes were. Some of the boosts were pretty significant, such as going from 700,000 xp to 2.2 million xp for a quest and so on.

They also said there would be a second XP boost coming in the next patch. Aside from that, dont forget to also use your rested XP in conjunction with your Lodas Amulets. In the 30s, its a 30% boost to xp for being rested..combine that with the 20% boost from a lodas amulet and you are getting a +50% xp bonus.

I'm Elyos faction, like i said i've got a bunch of new quests but totalling it up it equates to about half a level. This doesn't include Abyss and spy quests because the spy quests are pointless unless you are max level, i've tried different ones about 5 times now only to be ganked as soon as i step through the portal by a higher level. Similar with the Abyss but instead of them being 5 levels higher they are 15.

Gladiator isn't much fun solo in the abyss, you have very little going for you, even less if they take flight, but the class is my choice, can't blame the game for that.

They have increased quest XP which was a nice touch, but there still seems something wrong with the balance, finding things, killing tough mobs, collecting mats etc. Each quest is = to considerably less effort spent killing a few mobs. I've come from LOTRO though so i'm biased towards lots and lots of quests. I'm all for it improving but like you said my issues may not be considered somethign wrong with the game (the East loves to grind apparently), i can accept that. Lack of GMs is a bit unforgivable atm though.

Instead of drooling over Aion, just wait for GW2...

Havent read too much about it, but I found GW1 far too "instancey" for my liking. I truly despise instancing in an MMO (again though thats possibly because I come from a background of MMOs with no instancing, which made dungeons fantastic fun :D )

Is GW2 instance heavy? or more open? Shared dungeons would be particularly nice.

I do not truly understand what you mean by instancey? Is it the fact that you can only go into a combat area with your Team, instead of sharing that area with the whole population of the game?

Yeah basically, all I remember of GW1 was that everything of any consequence was instanced. I didnt seem to be able to do pvp with loads of people all running around, it was instanced. I didnt seem to be able to do quests with loads of people all running around doing the quest, was instanced for "my" group. Werent dungeons where there were loads of people all running around in the dungeon doing stuff etc etc.

It might of changed over time, but thats pretty much all I remember of it, and as I say, I truly hate instancing in an MMO. (blame UO and Daoc for me loving non-instanced stuff in MMOs :) ).

Havent read anything of GW2, so no idea if its more open than GW.

A yes, GW was instanced, however the PvP was instanced to 8v8 in Guild Battles and Hall of Heros to give that certain teamwork edge to it... which is why GW is known for it having a amazingly competitive PvP system.

However you can do PvP such as Alliance battles which is 12v12...

Also this instancey is a plus in lots of cases, such as other PUG's not stealing your kills and loot.

I played GW for 3 years, its dead now, due to the fact ArenaNet could not maintain it, but the information they have released about GW2 is very basic and does not tell us if the Maps will be instanced of not...

If you like that of course. For me, I find it too restrictive. I like my MMOs to be massively open, other PUGs stealing my kills and loot, or better still having to actually fight other players is what I like (hence my extreme fondness of UO and Daoc, the 2 best MMOs ever imo).

I'm not overly interested in nicely balanced 4v4 or 6v6 or 8v8 or 12v12 instanced pvp. Its part of the reason why I disliked the arena PvP in WoW so much and much preferred the kinds of battles that came in the Southshore-Tarren Mill battles instead.

Different tastes though, lots of people do like the instanced stuff. Its just not what I think makes a good MMO. At least not for me anyway.

BTW any of you Elyos on Telemachus can craft upto expert 33 atm.
That includes everythign upto normal lvl 50.
Balic lvl30 too if anyone wants to pimp up their alts xD

Hehe, true...I would even go so far as to say "<insert any class here> isn't much fun solo in the abyss" :D

Lies !!!!

Re-roll a Spiritmaster then go hunting.. Ignite Aether is an instant cast which removes 3 buffs from the enemy whilst also hitting approx 350-600 dmg then you Silence them and the fun begins - slow or root slap on some DoTs and hit them with Fear and Weaken Spirit !!! BOOM !!!

obviously it doesnt always go according to plan but with the above class you can decide whether to stay and fight or slow and tactically retreat, some say its OP but they simply aren't ;)

I know its hard in the Abyss due to gank groups but for me it just adds to the tension and fun.

Oh dont get me wrong, 1 on 1 and even 1 on 2/3 can be fun with a variety of classes. For instance people have a nightmare of a time trying to actually kill my Cleric in 1 on 1. I might not kill them , but they can have trouble killing mine :)

But when there are more folks at 50, running in groups, anyone soloing will most often hit trouble :)

so true, Clerics are probably the best overall class in the game as they have more survivability than any other, not to mention the lvl 40 Stigma skill Word of Destruction that wipes out 12 people with one press of the button!! ;)
