good medicine for hayfever :(

I used to take an antihistamine called Telfast, but last year I discovered a little device that you can buy from Lloyds Pharmacy that you put up your nose for 3 minutes a day and it uses light to relieve the symptoms. I used it 3 times a day last year, along with a good dose of vitimans from Holland & Barrett after my lovely other half found them suggested in an alternative remedy book, and the entire regimen sorted me out really well last year. I am probably one of the worst sufferers of hayfever that I know. Non-sufferers really don't understand just how debilitating it can be, but I totally sympathise with you! If you want further details on everything, email me. My email address is in my trust.

I use a nasal spray in the morning can't remember the name but it has a big orange cap. Then I take a 'one a day' Benadryl. Seems to be working so far.

That'll most likely be Flixonase. I've used both Flixonase and Beconase and they rarely help. The most effective method I've found is what I described above, as I tried it last year and within a week of major suffering, most of my symptoms had been totally alleviated :)

Take about 4 of the cheap one a day non drowsy allergy relief. Thats what I do, one is never enough.

I also experimented with crushing the pills and snorting them for a while, it offers unbelievable short term relief, but thats the key, short term, like 10 minutes. And just leaves your nose in a state so it's a waste of time.

That'd go down well at work.. snorting white powder off your desk and saying, "It's ok, it's for hayfever relief!" :D

Every medication has a downside of some sort, it's just a matter of how much, if you notice it and if the trade off is worth it.

One good way is using a Neti-Pot along with some neti salt. Buy a quality stainless steel pot and you're laughing, it's very beneficial to your overall health ;)

I'm still amazed at the number of people taking meds instead of going to see an allergy specialist.

I'll repeat - I went to see an allergy specialist about 6 years ago, I changed my diet a bit and had some other alternative meds which I didn't really believe in.

And 6 years on I'm still hayfever free. Not a sniff or snuffle or runny anything.

The amount you spend to go and pay to see a specialist (if you can't get a GP referral via BUPA/Medisure/etc) then the money you spend initially will be saved by all the drugs you won't have to buy later on.

It completely changed my life (well, my life from May-September each year).

:)

I have suffered from really bad hayfever since I can remember and have quite literally tried all the brands of tablets and eyedrops available in pharmacys and supermarkets. For me Claratyn and Benadryl is most effective. However what works for me won't necessarily work for you.

With eyedrops I've found most work.

Local honey is also meant to work. However you're ideally suppose to be having it daily during the year before hayfever season kicks in. I've been having it as often as I can (I forget most days) and I'll see if it makes any difference.

from a quick look that thing is basically shoving 2 red lights up your nose.

It is indeed and it actually works as intended. At least for me it does anyway :) The ioniser is fairly noisy, but does work pretty well too. You can replace the fan inside but it needs a flat head screwdriver with a groove in it.
