If you could move out of the UK...

Completely agree. I am trying to move to BC, not because I think Britain is rubbish, but because I want a bit of life adventure, BC would possibly suit me better due to the outdoor lifestyle (Being able to go skiing most days during the winter would be awesome!) and because I want to try something different. I will most definitely miss aspects of Britain. Mainly friends and family, but probably also lots of little things we normally take for granted.

I also would rather move abroad and try it, not like it and come back than not try it at all. What's the worst that can happen? I would loose lots of money, but at least I would have experiences and stories to tell.

Agreed. :)

I hope to move there within the next 10 years or so. It's finding a suitable job there which will probably be the biggest hurdle for me.

Already done it(FL) but I should have gone there 30 years back :(
To the young people here with a good education get out while you can.

No. I already live in the best country in the world, why would I want to move anywhere else? If I had to, really had to, then I would but I would want to get back as soon as possible.

Most of the people here are suffering from 'the grass is greener' syndrome, currently they can see the bad points of the UK due to living here but only the good points of many other countries and I suspect that if they do move they won't find in any better. As for those who 'hate' the UK, go already.

Not forever. I will always be British, and you would have to drag me kicking and screaming from my passport.

But I would like to live in Australia for a while, maybe Japan. After staying in Korea for a few months, you start to miss things. So I'd hate to see what it was like after years.

As an Aussie who's been in London for 3 years I think a lot of you are seriously delusional about what Australia/NZ can offer that the UK can't. But that's something you'll only learn through experience I guess.

Theres saying "you only appreciate your own culture when stuck in another" or something to that effect, more brits should proably try living abroad for a years, bonus points if its a place populated by morons

I'd be interested to hear why people say they want to get out of Britain because they hate it and how they expect things to be different in the destination of their choice.

I've spent a lot of time working in places like the US and for every one who has genuinely researched and chosen to live somewhere else for good reasons there tends to be 2 or 3 people that say they "want to move to Canada or Australia" having never even been there, or based on two weeks holiday.

Living and working in another country "for life" carries it's own problems as I'm sure the guys here that have done it will tell you. Most of the things that annoy you in the UK go with you, be it taxes, missing a bus, drunk pillocks on a Saturday night, the occasional argument with the missus, annoying boss and all the other miscellany of life that bugs you.

You also then add a whole bunch of stress and problems because things work differently, people have different attitudes and things that you take for granted in the UK are not quite so simple.

Of course there are huge benefits as well and aspects of other country's that make leaving the UK attractive. But there are just as many irritating things that make you miss "home".

In general as far as I have seen emigrating just because "UK sucks, Canada rocks" results in disappointment. If you emigrate for the right reasons and preferably have family/friends in the destination you stand a much better chance of success.

Funnily enough a good friend of mine emigrated to Adelaide a year ago saying things like (and I can't remember the exact details) we're only 600 miles from mountains and coast, we can swim in the sea and go skiing regularly. The reality is from London there was decent ski resorts available with much the same travel distance/flight times and yet they didn't go skiing every other weekend then, and unsurprisingly they haven't since arriving in Oz either.

The guys that researched, visited and prepared to go abroad for life changing reasons succeed because they have the emotional investment to keep going when the inevitably crappy times come, the same as in the UK.

As an aside I wish the people that "hate the UK I'd leave in a second", do something about it and go rather than moaning.

Why? What difference does it make to you that people want to move away? Everybody is different. People have different tastes and expectations. You only live once and if you want to bugger off somewhere else to do it then all the best to you.

Britain is not "the best" country, it's not flawless, it's not necessarily the better of however many evils. Therefore when someone moves away, it's not just a case of "The Grass is Always Greener" syndrome.

"How many peple think moving away will be better" is kind of arrogant. And not just you, a bunch of people in this thread have said it. Like they know better. Hell, at least these people have actually hoofed off and given it a go.

I'm not for one second suggesting there are "better" places to live, but why berate those that give it a go? Why begrudge them sense or experience, just because they dont fancy living there anymore?

Makes no sense.

I got out of the UK a few months after graduation a few years back and haven't looked back other than a few months back in the country last year. Been living and working in Japan. Now have a wife and kid and wouldn't consider going back. This is my home now.

I'd definitely like to work and live in all sorts of places in the world after I finish studying. The long-term economic trend is shifting towards China/India, as well as southeast Asia, so I'm ready to go where the jobs are (I'll also be nearer to relatives). US/Canada is also good, and still economically strong compared to Europe (and again, I have plenty of family over there).

I'd still hang on to my British passport though :)

I wonder how New Zealand feel about the Brits immigrating to their country? Pretty much the same way we feel about the shed loads of Eastern Europeans and middle eastern immigrants.

Whinging poms :)

But we are, so I can't argue - gives them somebody to take the pee out of anyway.

I think I will live abroad for some portion of my life (already have, was born & raised in Sweden), but I'm not in a huge rush to do it. I like it here too :)

I would like to go experience life in other places but not because of any 'Britain is crap' ideas. It would just be a shame not to, right?

Yes, I could and I have. I moved to Singapore a few months back, it's as modern as England (more so), except everything works properly and you don't have to give a second thought to your safety no matter where you are at any time of day or night. Zero tolerance, something the UK could learn a lot from. My lifestyle is better as the tax rate is low, I enjoy my work and i've worn nothing but shorts, tshirt and flip flops since I got here (when im not in a shirt and tie).
