James Bond 23 production 'on hold'

I've liked Craig as Bond thus far although I haven't seen QoS since the cinema so should really rent/buy the bluray sometime!

It appears now there's a delay that the new bond rumour mill has ground back to life with Sam Worthington a good bet it seems along with Bale (would be very interesting to see).

Slight joke that they said Will Smith was suggested at some point! That would have to be some kind of slap stick Carry on version surely ... I don't think he could do a serious Bond type character!

Daniel Craig reminds me of the whole Web 2.0 movement. Companies trying to be new, fresh, innovative and all the bloody buzzwords under the sun. You know the companies with bright pastel colours and biiiig text with lines such as "Hi, we're such and such, we like to lick asses and play the banjo".....That's Craig. The Web 2.0 of the Bond franchise. A "fresh" attempt at Bond which, in my eyes, failed miserably. Pierce Brosnan is the modern day Bond and it should've stayed that way.

Apologies if the above statement made absolutely no sense whatsoever :p

This news is disappointing, as a fan of almost all the films. I have confidence that the franchise will return, and probably not a lot different to how it was.

The recent changes with Daniel Craig made a good film in Casino Royale. The film may not be a typical bond affair, but the script more than makes up for it fortunately. It was evident that it was adapted rather than written now of course, as it was quite a deviation from Die Another Day, which was dire compared to any other bond film before it. Way too much action, stupid storyline and no substance or meaningful character building.

Quantum of Solace was a massive disappointment after Casino Royale. One of my favourite bonds ever is Timothy Dalton, with his down to earth style. A lot more believable and just a lot more serious compared to the overly light hearted late Moore films. Quantum of Solace kept this difficult and dangerous character, but put him in an unfathomable plot with a desperate script and terrible dialogue. The worst offence was probably the whole premise of the film. It doesn't make a lot of sense at all, and the flow of the movie, especially towards the end is spontaneous and nonsensical. The finale arises from nowhere, and leads nowhere, answering no questions or fulfilling any encouraging plot lines in the film. No substance at all.

Therefore, I woldn't be surprised if there may be difficulty in getting funding for another movie, but it will have to be done right. No longer will the action packed bond bring punters to the cinema in droves, I'd like to think we're a bit more discerning now, and should be asking for more.

Can't say I'm devastated with the news but in terms of the secondary discussion going on here...

Without question.

Moore was decent, Craig is fresh and Pierce Brosnan was the best since the original.

But Sean Connery IS James Bond.

casino royale, amazing film not necessary a good bond film but great film...

qos not good better than most of peierce brosnans rubbish!! ice castles wtf
goldeneye = lucky film for brosnan best thing about it still sion bean... who should have been cast as bond long time ago

cheesiest bond = moore who imo provides the most rewatch value apart from the obvious best bond films

goldfinger, goldeneye and casino royale... these are the best bond film if you never noticed btw

I actually like Daniel Craig as bond and while last film wasn't great I would hardly call it rubbish and far superior to the late stuff with Brosnan. I like the more serious note that Craig brought to the films and none of this over the top silliness.

Craig is great as Bond, what are you lot on? Sure Quantum wasnt great but Casino Royale was excellent
+1

Craig has brought what James Bond should be a cold assassin which in theory what james bond really is.

When you watch the Austin power films this tells you what the early bonds are all about.too far fetched and corny.

Dont get me wrong i love the the early bonds and own every title i just think a change of direction & a bit of realism is needed, and craig has brought this.

I agree that QOS could have been better.

For the record when auditions took place to take over from Pierce Brosnan i would have liked Clive Owen to take over.
I believe he was second choice behind Craig.

The change of style with Daniel Craig has all been fail.

Pierce Brosnan = best Bond.
Correct. Brosnan and Dalton were excellent Bonds, both of whom left 007 behind too soon.

Craig was pretty good in Casino Royale which was a good reboot film but Quantum of Solace was pretty awful. Have watched it twice and understood it less the second time around.

Didn't Clive Owen turn it down?

As for QoS don't understand the difficulty of the story. It was pretty simple.

Firstly you just need to remember it was about revenge.

Second it just carries on where CR finished. The bloke they were chasing in CR was the money launderer of a large organisation. Bond captures White *End first film* White tells about QoS and Bond tries to find them and the people that killed Eva. Bond follow trail to bloke "in charge" and finds out dastardly plan to help overthrow the southern american government for money and then blackmails future leader for more money. Bond kills "leader" and the guys that take bribes (the blokes in the hotel in the Desert). The only real difficulty is that you soon realise that they are being backed, or at least ignored by the US government and also have fingers in the UK government pie.

Pretty simple to me, probably far more simple than most bond plots.

I've seen QoS, and yet I can't remember what happens in it

I remember what happens in all the Brosnan films and in CR though lol
