With the sunny weather here it's time to sell the MX5 and I'm looking for the best way to determine its value.

Details:

1999 - T Reg
1.8i
British Racing Green
Brand New Mohair Hood Fitted last year - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18002450
4 Eagle F1's with good levels of tread
Electric Windows
I think 55k miles off the top my head!
2 Previous Keepers
MOT Until Aug 2010 (Mileage at last MOT 52366)
Good Stack of Receipts and previous MOTS
Service Details (Stamped - Mazda and Indy's - Invoices as well):
02/11/2000 - 8136
10/09/2001 - 13513
19/08/2002 - 22368
08/09/2003 - 34367
27/05/2005 - 39309 (When we bought it)
19/02/2007 - 46077
25/03/2008 - Just over 48k it had a service but due to a mix up at the garage and other things they didn't charge me and I didn't get an invoice / stamp

Sony Bluetooth MP3 CD Player (allows handfree calling and bluetooth streaming)
Electric Aerial
PAS
Remote Central Locking
One of those covers that goes over the hood when it's down!

2 Advisorys on the last MOT :-
Nearside Brake Pipe slightly corroded
Both Rear disks slightly worn (Great description! - These where changed on the 25/03/2007 service so have done less than 10k miles!)

So the question to you good folks is what should I sell it for. Looking on ebay and pistonheads prices seem to be all over the shop and a guess on a nice sunny day the car would literally sell itself!

Value in the summer will be around the £2.5-3k mark.

The reason the brakes are rough on the back may be down to the lack of use it gets.

The "missing" service won't look good and the more sceptical buyer will just assume it has not been done.

It is coming up to cambelt change time and the waterpump may as well be done while doing this.

With the following you could get £3500 assuming there is no rot, but £3k is still more realistic top end.

Fresh MOT
Some Tax
New brake pipes all round(do you mean hoses)
Cambelt and waterpump
A good 60k mile service (inc cambelt?)

The above can be done for £250-300ish at an indie and will help you stand out from the dross out there, especially on the forums.

Remember that S/C Mk2s are going for £5k online and not selling.

Try the OC and Nutz forums as i am sure you will get some enquiries as the new members sign up to find a good car as the weather improves.

I honestly thought it would be over £3k when I've looked around :(

So not using them has made them "worn"? Bizzare things these cars ! :o)

Completely understand that.

So spending the £250 - £300 and realistically I'm still looking at £3k? - Seems a waste of "profit". The car is taxed, sorry missed that, same end date as the MOT.

These I would guess appeal to the hard core mx5'r not the type of market we are after really.

Key thing is ideally I want shut of it by the 12th May as that's when the temporary insurance runs out on the car.

you know when you remove your number plate from the picture you really should remove your neighbours as well
