Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

Been getting familiar with Cody today for hours, got most of his combos down.

He's a machine, so much fun to play and has some great tools.

Edit: Unfortunately I don't own it nor do I have access to a modded 360, I tried playing Juri a bit but didn't have the patience to try her out properly due to the limited time I had to play.

Have seen many videos of Cody so I had a good idea of what to do and what his combos were so just stuck with him, I also played T.Hawk and he's awesome.

Shame that you're not as into it as you may have been - hope i still get to play you!
You should consider spending a bit more time finding another char you like and learning his basics. It might be because on a basic level, you play other chars the way you play Ryu, which might not be as effective for that other char.
Spend more time with Dudley, i think he'll a good char for you. He has a 'dragon punch' (:p) and supposedly has lots of ways to combo into Ultra.

LOL that's probably why I liked him more than the others. You can FADC into Ultra, do a low dp into Ultra etc. but yeah I DEFINATELY try playing all other chars like I'm playing Ryu and I end up in no mans land... lost without a clue what I'm doing because they don't have Ryu's tools.

I will definately attempt Dudley, but he has no fireball, and no cross up (I think) and so that's 2 massive things missing which I used a lot with Ryu, but he has other massive areas to his game which I need to explore. When I get this I am gonna attempt Dudleys trials over and over so that his moves and combos become second nature. :o I could tell instantly that in the hands of a top player, Dudley is one of those chars dominating this game.

I played Dudley a fair bit and I don't like him, not a fan of target/chain combos so I am gonna stay well clear!

I don't think he has any safe moves either which kinda sucks, Cody/Bison are chip damage fiends.

Edit: Oh and I swear Ryus sweep is way faster.

is projectile spam still viable?

got fed up with just playing chase as geif.

Yes it is against Zangief but that has always been the tactic against him even in ST, keeping him out.

Just pick T.Hawk, more life, more damage, more mobility. He's much scarier than Zangief.

Marge, what dya think of Sagat?

Not as fun and kinda lame with the standing light kick change.

:

yea but he's not a burly russian :(

what annoys me is it seems far more balanced against the non-shoto characters, than when it becomes a case of ducking and weaving to get close, then getting sagat's kick, or similar.
not just the case with geif but a fair amount of other chars.

guess it's just the play style of people online, do the easiest thing to win.

Ojste I will get it on both consoles (to learn the timing differences like those in sfiv) but I will not be touching online play, sorry but I have to really dumb down my game online and that ruins my offline game..

its ok if you play vs like-minded people though, the problem is if when people alter their game to compensate for the lag.

if the connection is decent enough and people stay true to their offline game, then it can still be enjoyable, which is why i like organising games with people i know :)

I wish I never played it now because I really want it. Buh.

Looking forward to some of these online OcUK lobbys though, I won't be able to play it offline much until mid-May (well excluding playing with some friends locally) so will play online a fair bit for a little while. I think I'll be playing T.Hawk quite a bit.

Out of curiosity Ojste, how much better are you these days? I haven't touched SFIV since they broke the matchmaking with the tournament patch so i'm god awful now. Just wondering whether we can still have relatively entertaining games (albeit one-sided) or if it'll just be a pointless walkover :p

Still can't decide whether i should invest in this....

Oh and Margaret, what console/s are you getting this on? I missed our random, drunken (or at least i usually was), late night sparring when you migrated to 360 :(

I am getting it on 360 but will end up getting it on PS3 at some point, don't wanna lose my t-shirt pre-order now by switching to PS3. :D (will have my dual modded stick shortly after Kreeeee returns)

Plus I don't wanna get stung with the chance of PS3 online being worse than 360 like it is on vanilla. :(

Btw, is it true you can now select stage music or somethng in Vs battles?

If you could mix and match music with stages, it would feel rather weird.. imagine Dhalsim's India stage music while fighting in Las Vegas.

Just got my xbox 360 today - was excited when it arrived, not so much now though for some reason. Must be because i'm getting old and going off gaming or something. Still really looking forward to SSF4 though and my Super duper Blanka T-Shirt.

Just found out that it looks like the guy that does the SSFIV Announcer's voice "is" the same epic dude that does Lu Bu from Dynasty Warriors and Agol in Soul Calibur IV. I mean his voice is quite recognisable.

Not really, I prefer to have some upbeat proper fight music than some of the other crappy tunes. E.g. I hate the old training stage music, but I think the new one is quite good.

Yea I thought he was the dood from SC4!
Actually sounds a bit Killer Instinct-esque :D

I can't stand the commentators voice! It should more like erm ...Mortal Kombat!!!

Some of the new chars have a move similar to the old parry in sf3. If you press down, back, punch just as you are about to be hit, Dudley does a good counter. Will test this further when I get the game but Juri had a similar counter I think.
