OH MY WORD! Deus EX complete on Steam £3!!!

Just bought DX1 on a whim and it doesn't smegging work!

When in Direct3d mode the menu doesn't work correctly- when I click a menu option it's completely blank, no text where it should be. Also the cursor is only visible when hovering over the menu.

When in OpenGL mode the menu works but everything is in roadrunner mode, despite using the speed fix. :(

Using a 5850 with an i7.

EDIT: Fixed. Had to install the dx10 dll's, use Opengl mode so I could select "rendering device" in the game menu and then switch to dx10 mode.

This looks easier to deal with. What do i do with the file after a download it?

stick all the stuff from the 'deusex' folder in the download into the /system/ folder in the game directory. Then all you need to do is change the renderer, should be an option in game to do it :)

cheers for the heads up, all works great :)

with all the textures etc ramped up, it looks brilliant!

By pressing T in game, then delete the "say" and replace with "preferences" that brings up the menu to edit the settings and then go to the Rendering section and then the D3D 10 drop down and enable everything. the AA and AF are set to 0 as standard so change them to the max settings on most card (8xAA and 16AF is what i did) and remember to put Vsnyc on or i was running at 450fps which is a littttle bit nutty lol

This is quite cool on the 2nd page, i dont think the whole game is retro fitted with it yet, but if i could work out how to do it i would :)

EXTERNAL TEXTURES
External textures allow the games' textures to be replaced or augmented by external .dds files,
which are easier to create than .utx files and can include full alpha information.

First of all, an example: download this file and unzip it to your Deus Ex textures subdirectory.
After doing this, start the training area: the brick texture will have been replaced by one from the DirectX SDK,
and the UNATCO seal will have been replaced with the one from New Vision, with added alpha blended edges.
Enabling the renderer's bump mapping and parallax occlusion mapping settings will have a clear effect on the walls.

Makes a big difference, you really can tell straight away...check out the bump mapping to the brickwork!!

I tried to resist hitting the buy button but my will power failed (very quickly). Deus Ex was the first game that really lived up to the hype for me and I am looking forward to seeing what bits I missed the first time I played it. I think it was the first game I actually had to play through to the end because of the story, rather than just to say i did to my friends.

*sits watching download progress*

Its dated now but well worth that money. If i didn't have it on hard copy i'd buy it without thinking.

Just given the DX10 renderer and New Vision textures a try. Looks OK although you have to have vsync on to cap framerate and it makes the mouse feel a bit wrong. Also need to get the FOV up a bit.

For those who find the game running to fast; you need to enable vsync as this will help make the game operate at normal speed (you can try the multicore fix manually as well but this can sometimes be quite complicated).

Deus Ex 10/10 (The only game that I have ever given that score), the second I liked, it just wasn't as good, that's all. Simples. ;) 8/10.
