Children running out into the road..

I was driving up my local road about 10mph and a kid ran out infront of me from behind a massive transit van.

there was no way i would have seen him, so when he ran out i didnt have time to stop and just clipped him.

Just for his pure stupidity to run out infront of a car, i didnt stop to see if he was ok.

Does the Green cross code get taught in schools these days?
People (kids especially) need to learn that they must take responsibility for their own actions. Quite how anyone doesn’t consider their own safety before crossing the road staggers me – a soft, squishy person will always come off worse versus 2 tons of metal travelling at speed.

I was never taught the green cross code at school, but I remember those adverts with the hedgehogs and that stupid stop and look song...

Walking to and from work i pass a college, the number of students who just walk out into the road without looking is amazing. Or worse the ones that look, see you coming but walk out anyway with the attitude of "they wont hit me, they'll brake", then give abuse if the car driver pips their horn on the way past. Morons!

Funnily enough I was driving into the Morrisons car park over the weekend and from between two cars two kids come out on bikes right where I was going to drive into! Not even a glance at me in my car it was almost as if I wasn't there.

I dread to think if I had hit them.

I feel kids these days think they are invincible and nothing can hurt them.

Whilst it's not a shame that the kids themselves are often proven wrong.
It is a shame for any unfortunate motorist who has to deal with the consequences.

From the road adverts they have these days, it just seems accepted that kids can and will play on the road.
It's always the motorists fault and NOTHING needs to be done to enforce any sort of road safety/green cross code knowledge.

Tbh, parents are 100% to blame. Kids don't get taught right from wrong, a side effect of our compensation culture. The 'sue first, sue later and then ask questions' society teahes the kids that there is no point in being responsible as someone else is always at fault. In general, I have little sympathy with kids that get minced into the road as, in most cases, they aren't being supervised properly so are unlikely to give enough of a damn about the little darlings to make them decent members of society.

Well done for judging the road correctly and stopping in time. I could be generous to the shouting woman and suggest they will appreciate your driving later on when the shock resides.

IMO its not about the kids being invincible or stupid though; my experience is that young children (particularly boys) have so much energy their bodies sometimes (frequently) act before their brain has a chance to catch up. And thats where the parents come in - watching them like a hawk when in potentially dangerous situations. Unlike in this example where they were nattering. They probably shouted at you because deep down they felt guilty.

i was driving our works transit a trailer and digger on the back a couple of weeks ago down a village high street when a boy on a bike lost his football he had been carrying and it went into the road.

anyway next thing i know his dad (also on a bike) jumps out in front of me to get the ball back. in a car it wouldnt have been a problem but when u have to emargency stop with 3 tonnes pushing u up the arse its not funny.

not a good example to set his kid imo.

on a sadder note. bout 15 years ago. my uncle ( who was younger than me about 8 yrs old) ran out in front of a lorry outside his school. killed instantly :(
