Yep. The poor get poorer because they're lazy and sit on their arses, refusing to work for £6 p.h. (god bless polish people). An £8 minimum wage just because you want more money to get off your arse is not a good thing. Someone would have to pay for that and I don't want it to be me.

There would be less jobs because more companies would move jobs abroard.

Also your £8.10 an hour wouldn't go a far as you think. Taxes would have to be much higher, and also goods in the shops would be more expensive because the companies who supply them would have higher wage bills.

You'd be less wealthy then you are today.
 
will any new party really change anything.perhaps don't increase minimum just make dole harder to get or only for limited time.

have you tried living on the minimum wage? if you havn't, maybe you should
 
I would much prefer Dolph's favoured method of negative income tax than this, raising the minimum wage by such a large amount would cripple our exports as prices rise due to costs increase, businesses would suffer far more with this than a 1% increase in N.I. for people earning over 20%.

People on minimum wage wouldn't see a benefit becuase of the aformentioned rise in prices, and people earning around £8ph (and probably anyone else) now would demand a pay rise.

Becuase of rises in prices, people on benefits and JSA etc would need to be given more money... it's completely insane.

that isnt what i asked, minimum wage does not work, work it out yourself,
example
single male living in a rented flat, no qualifications so is forced to work for £5.80.
rent £75 pw
council tax, maybe £15 pw
electric/gas/water, £30 pw
travel cost for work, £25pw
t.v license £3pw
food £40pw

so it covers the basics, the guy is just existing in a job that pays £5.80ph, you think this is ok though.
where does he get his money to buy clothes, furniture, lifes luxurys?

You just don't get it. Slovenly moron with no qualifications does not have some divine right to luxuries.

You're also ignoring the effect of being out of work on both the CV and the mentality. Sitting at home doing nothing will certainly get you nowhere fast in career terms, so that person is obviously quite happy to forgo their luxuries.

So you don't agree that 'life's luxuries' are not a human right, even for a total slob?

You don't agree that it's impractical and impossible to live in a society where everyone deserves a plasma TV for their council living room, even if they can't be bothered to get off the sofa?

You don't agree that it's unfair for someone working hard as p.a., secretary, or retail store supervisor on £8 p.h. suddenly finding themselves on the same wage as someone that has never worked a day in their lives, and that has been dragged from the settee to go and clean office buildings by a £2 rise in the minimum wage?
