Since the 'new look' STEAM i've had nothing but trouble with it .....

9 times out of 10 it won't load and i get a testshell error ...

...and then when it does run i get this message when i try to play my own games .....

..and if i do manage to get a game up and running i get an error message saying that it's 'unable to SYNC files with STEAM Cloud' ...

I've got over £700 worth of games on STEAM and i never had this trouble before the update .. ideas anyone?

BTW ... i've reinstalled STEAM 4 times over the last 2 days ....

"This test-shell error likely indicates a network connectivity problem with the browser.

Are those of you having issues using HTTP proxy settings? If you are (or even if you are not) can you make sure they are set right (or not present) in IE or the control panel. We'll detect the settings automatically from there and should use them.

If it doesn't work and your proxy settings are set, please post the details of how you have your proxy configured so we can see if there is some common cause."

A message from Valve.
"The problem is caused by a setting in Internet Explorer's connection settings. Under "LAN Settings" in the Internet Options, if the box "Automatically detect settings" is checked, the Steam browser will not function. Once the box is unchecked, and Steam restarted (note I do not use a proxy) the browser works properly. So to fix the problem, open IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options ->Connections -> LAN Settings, and uncheck "Automatically detect settings," then close and re-open Steam."

A post from someone on the forums and a lot say it works.

... thanks but I've already done that and it doesn't work.

My broadband works fine and i have a Ethernet cable running into the back of my PC so i don't buy the 'mess around with your internet settings'. Steam worked for years on my internet settings before this update.

Just wondering what ISP you are on? I had a few problems the other day on Sky, I was wondering if it could be a DNS issue or something.

I'm on Virgin 20MB. They only way to resolve it is for me to re-install STEAM again. For some strange reason i'm now getting a new error message ...

...very frustrating!!!! i've got a nice 12 hour shift starting at 14:30 and fancied a bit gaming this morning to take my mind off it ....

this is ****** ... just re-installed STEAM and all my games have dissapeared .... 45 games gone. Have to download them all again.

...cheers fellas for trying to help fella's ..

I just get blank white pages (with the steam ui around them) when I try to load up steam for last few days, I'll have to try a few of the above.

you deleted the steam apps folder.... you think it was magically not going to delete?

should have backed up

Yea I was just going to suggest what I did few weeks ago, keep steam.exe and the game apps folder, and delete everything else, then reopen steam.exe and it all reinstall's fresh but keeping your games.

Surprised they released this update, there were tons of people reporting problems with the beta client. I had to reinstall steam 3 times whilst using it over the course of 2 months then ended up back at the old client which worked fine. I like the new one, but they needed to sort those problems before rolling it out.

This is a bit disapointing tbh. I left the new Steam to update yesterday and up date my games. I came home to find it had indeed updated all my games but had re-downloaded all 12GB's of Empire Total War. Nice, thank **** I have unlimited broadband!

It does seem like they pushed this one out before it was ready for prime time... it randomly takes a long time to load for me and I frequently (around once per hour) get steam games lockup where the image freezes but sound continues playing and I can use task manage to kill the game - previously never had this and all non-steam games work fine still. I might have to try disabling ingame community support.
