Gordon Brown's 'bigoted woman' jibe

I think it's a sad state of affairs when the media invade Gordon's privacy like this for the sake of a story.

Obviously common decency doesn't exist any more.

Nobody invaded his privacy he was wired up with a broadcasting microphone and the stupid man didn’t take it off. Serves him right.

It is sad that the campaign to elect the government of our country has come down to this. The media are to blame, yes it's bad (that it was heard) but at the end of the day who cares. I want to be able to vote for the party which is going to take this country forward, yet at this stage I am no wiser.

We will end up like greece for sure.

How are you no wiser? Have you not noticed what has happened the last 12-13 years and why our country is close to bankrupt?

I despair of people who seem to believe this was all the fault of a global recession. This would have been no issue if Blair & Brown hadn't systematically asset stripped the country they were supposed to manage over their time in power. When the bubble burst, they'd already spent our safety net on pink elephants and bad judgement calls.

If you vote labour in this election, you may as well set fire to your own house. We need fresh blood in to go over the accounts these people have been manipulating & actually see how bad it is. Not to congratulate them on the worst possible job.

Anyway, on topic. This is what happens when a compulsive liar is caught out. It's clear he doesn't even hear what the little people are saying direct to his face, he doesn't understand the word bigot (why is it bigotted to ask why so many immigrants are allowed to work here, when we pay so much unemployment benefit?), and he has the people skills of a serial killer. His face on the radio interview was priceless.

On a serious note:
It's really worrying that this is the media's main focus today. This is a youtube story, not headline news yet it seems to be the main focus.

bbc news were talking about it for around 35minutes before i finally had enough of the background noise about it and turned the channel over

It's pretty shocking how much this has been jumped on. It's really a non-issue with regard to party policy which people should be caring about.

Keeps the mob entertained though I guess.

I don't understand why people are "shocked", "surprised" and wetting themselves about the fact the Prime Minister calling a Labour voter a "bigot" and subsequently losing that vote is making headlines.

probably a lot of it is to do with how out of touch politicians are.

i bet she complained about all the eastern bloc imigrants moving in around where she lived and hes automaticly assumed shes a racist bigot.

its all right for you rich ***** who dont have to live near people who dont give a crap about an area they are living in because soon they will go back to russia or wherever anyway

Why yes, it all right :D

As a freelance sound recordist stuff like this happens all the time. The worst is when actors go to the toilet with radio packs on. They are so easily forgotten about.

But this is hilarious - the jokes on big GB.

However after all i dont believe its terrible press for him. The british public are smart enough to understand that this was a general comment.

On the filpside it would have been interesting to hear what DC would have said after being quizzed on the street by the father of a disabled child.

It may act in favor for brown by showing him as a 'real' person rather than a plastic face.

Yeah, probably best you dont sit down for a chatette with Mr Brown lol.

In my experience some of the worst offenders for not giving a crap about an area are some of the people who have lived there for years and not a lot of immigrants.

A lot of people i know who have had tradesmen in to work for example have done nothing but sing their praises about how polite they were and how good the work was. Even my gran ffs. Its not something you'll hear as much about native tradesmen nearly as much.

Unbelievable. Does anybody really think that this is a unique incident? Does anybody really think that this is something that only the leader of the Labour party has done? Come on...

It's all good to have a laugh about such trivial things, but that's where it should end. I can't believe anybody with a shred of intelligence or self respect would be jumping on this as anything more than a laugh. He called her a bigot, he was extremely calm and collected at the time, he didn't swear. In fact, for a man that was being so rude about somebody, he was being very polite.

Thanks to everyone for showing, once again, that populist politics is what people want to hear, and thank you for making he chance of us hearing a proper debate seem all the more unlikely.

EDIT: Apparently the Sun have paid Mrs Duffy £50,000 for an exclusive interview. Thanks a lot everyone!

A 'real' person with an attitude problem towards his own staff, and his voters. Why yes, that sounds lovely...

"Should never have put me with that woman. Whose idea was that?"
"Sue’s, I think. Just ridiculous."

It shouldn't change any votes. Politicians should be encouraged to say what they think, not lose votes because of it so have to 'live the lie' ...

I agree, which is why Brown's two faced behaviour is so unnacceptable, especially with the false apology afterwards. He wasn't apologising for what he said, he was apologising for getting caught saying it.

Brown should have been honest with the woman on camera if he really felt that way.

Yup. Democracy sucks because the population are thick. Let's have a revolution.

Very well put.
