Gordon Brown's 'bigoted woman' jibe

Brown should have been honest with the woman on camera if he really felt that way.
Come on, who in the world of politics has ever behaved in such a way? I agree that it would be lovely, but realistically, is it even worth contemplating such things?

I can't believe anybody with a shred of intelligence or self respect would be jumping on this as anything more than a laugh.

It's the intelligent and self respecting people who can see that this is more than just a laugh.

Wouldn't it be a refreshing change if they did though?

This is only more then just a laugh if the other contenders don't do it.

And we both know they do ... they just haven't been unlucky enough to be caught ..

Cor blimey, anyone would think we're dealing with actual human beings fighting 18 hours a day for their careers here!!

It's effectively a non-story. In fact almost refreshing to see a human being rather than just some slick well-oiled robot saying soundbites he's learnt off by heart ..

I agree that Xfactor politics is bad, and were you referring to Cleggmania™ then I would agree. However, I think calling a 66 year old widow a bigot transcends "Personality BS".

What relevance does age or marital status have on whether someone is a bigot or not?:p

He's wrong either way though, either she isn't a bigot and he shouldn't have said anything or she is and he should have stuck to his guns.

It's pretty shocking how much this has been jumped on. It's really a non-issue with regard to party policy which people should be caring about.

Keeps the mob entertained though I guess.

If you think thats a non-issue you must be of the same school of thought as Brown. He knows he has messed up and this could be the biggest nail in labours electoral coffin. He has been caught red handed slagging of a old woman behind her back, as he was not man enough to argue his position face to face in front of the press. Its to close to the election for this to blow over.

This shoot will go down in electoral history if Labour lose this election.

Amusingly, in 1997 labour insisted that every microphone was provided (and controlled) by the party (which annoyed the broadcasters plenty) precisely so this didn't happen. Way to forget previous lessons.

I agree it's an issue, but what I said was it's not related at all to the important issues that people should be caring about. It's sad that people will get swayed by this with kneejerk reactions to someone's intentionally private comment.

If I say something to my mate, and he goes off and slaughters me behind my back, that's something that I probably shouldn't worry too much about.

If the prime minister of my country lies to my face, then goes off and slaughters me behind my back, that's something we ALL should worry about. She represents all of us, don't forget that. Disagree with Chairman Brown, and get slagged off and ignored - democracy at it's finest.

do u seriously, seriously beleive that this is a revilation into polotics and human behaviour? are u even remotley suprised by it ?? like i said this morning, if anything i find it refreshing to see/hear what we should already know about polotics. The horrid bit is the entire apology farce where hes forced to try and dig himself out. Id have a load more respect if he or whoever it was, just stood by it.

this is out of hand now, the media are running nothing but this story over and over again.

They've completely lost the plot.
Did Clegg and Cameron do anything today?

The whole episode shows the calibre of the man, you're right to include the stomach churning apology, but I would aim more for the contempt with which he holds his voters thoughts. To simply pretend to entertain, then discard is extremely crass in the least. And that is not what's required of a leader of people.

yes ultimately he does not appear very genuine, it could drive more labour voters to libdem.

This issue isnt the fact that Gordon Brown is human and has a go at someone behind her back.

Its the content of what he says, in regards to his opinion of the woman.
As far as labour voters are concerned now, this is the opinion the party holds of the average working man who has real concerns about the level of immigration.

They try and say they are taking the issue seriously, but the man at the top thinks anyone who has doubts is a biggot, and a racist and stupid.

Same old lying labour party.
