Man found circling the isle of sheppy! Trying to get to Southampton!

Meh, you just need a GPS device really. He is an idiot but it isn't that dangerous really either.

If you're in a motorboat and you run out of fuel then you've got no method of controlling your course so are rather obviously at the mercy of tides, rocks, shipping and other dangers.

It's a very stupid thing to do taking to sea when you're not competent enough to do so and puts other people at risk if/when you've got to be rescued but luckily nothing more serious happened as a result.

The boat only had a 20-litre fuel tank and a 20 horse power engine - not designed for sea use.

The sailor thought that because he could drive in his car to Southampton using a single tank of fuel, he only needed one tank of fuel for the vessel.

He also made the mistake of taking a VHF radio, but did not know how to use it and he had no provisions onboard.

There is just to much Fail in this for me to cope with in one day. :p:p:p

Also that looks like my boat. + :p

haha, i actually live on the isle of Sheppey, one thing that does puzzle me however is if he circled the island how did he not notice the same bridge every time he went under it?
Like the motorway he assumed all the bridges/overpasses looked the same? :p

ps3ud0

Why would there be a bridge in the middle of the sea, with land both sides of it?

Anybody know how many laps he did.

Awesome find, has just had most of the office laughing. :)

I especially liked the coastgaurd advising him to take the train and the last quote...
'However, he said he would get some fuel and get under way but asked us if he went left or right when he came out of the Swale.'

They really should have told him that as the world is round he just needed to keep on going in a straight line ;)

As for how many laps... no idea how fast he was going, with that size engine I'd guess he was making 6-10 knots? (happy to be corrected by someone as knows better!) If so I'd guess he had gone round about a half dozen times or more. Didn't realise 20 litres of fuel would keep an engine going for that long though so he might have stopped for the night somewhere.

haha yeah, must be them new bridges to France then :p. I really can't get over how stupid he is. Anybody with the smallest amount of common sense would have worked this out.

My brother told me he went round four times, i believe his source was the sun

This navigation fail is on par with:
