Nice post Hatter, I've got to stop believing everything politicians say. I was thinking whilst I was watching the debate and the question on 80% migrants from EU - "Why is Cameron avoiding that question?" Turns out the statement isn't even correct.

It'll be interesting to see the ramifications if the Tories don't win an outright majority, whilst for Labour I think them losing a overall majority has been a foregone conclusion for quite some time and with that I suspect Brown will step down, a lot of the senior backbench Tories have kept quiet and 'on-message' about Cameron & Osbourne's 'NuTory' tactics, in the main I'm sure because the polls have been consistently favourable to a Tory win - if they fail to win an overall majority after all that anticipation will we see the old divides and squabbling start again, or will Cameron have to sacrifice his buddy to keep the party intact?

I disagree, The LibDems are advocating some pretty 'out there' policies, Road charging, immigration amnesties, local income tax, VAT on new build houses including low income housing and so on. He actually wants to tax the poorer sections of society more, not less.

He wants to cut working tax credit and child tax credit far more than the Conservatives, who just say people earning more than £50k do not need child tax credit. The policies do not advocate a fairer society, regardless of what Cleggs soundbites may say.

Economies rely on private businesses, not Governments. To support business is not a bad thing or an indication of stupidity as you claim.

To be honest you've misrepresent my position (and theirs come to think of it sufficiently that I just can't be bothered to correct you in detail before going to bed, though I'm interested in the idea that imposing VAT on new build is 'out there' as it's actually a fairly logical move to bring it in line with other work (renovations and such) and it's an odd carryover that it isn't currently charged.

And I never implied supporting business was stupid, find me anywhere I did. I suggested that coming from a background of business and then embracing policies uncritically supportive of business isn't terribly ingenious or intellectually challenging. I've more respect for somebody who comes from that background and stops to question whether that unquestioning support is actually the right thing to do, whether they're right or not they certainly gain some credibility for their thought processes.

Sorry, I should probably clarify further.

You're absolutely correct, public spending is going to have to be cut, severely. What I meant is that I feel confident I knowing what I'd be voting for, should I vote Labour. Although one can make reasoned judgements regarding the other two major parties, I think one could have more confidence in knowing how a future Labour government would behave.

Haven't read the thread, but how anyone can vote for Cameron or Clegg is beyong me.

Cameron is so slimey its unbelievable, and Clegg just sounds like a kid who has no idea what he is going to do.

Brown, while he may have messed up in the past etc, at least has the right ideas on how to move forward

She just tells it how it is and doesn't take crap from politicians, I like her. Earlier when Sky were outside Birmingham Uni and as to be expected, vacuous students were being immature: she made some comment about the "silly children" - you just wouldn't get that sort of frankness on the politically correct bbc.

Also, Mark Kleinman is epic and Lucy Verasamy is fit - it's just so much better to watch than the bbc.
