Did you get the car inspected mechanically by a specialist ?
No it's a genuine question, why would someone swap a Mondeo for a Matiz unless there was something badly wrong with the Mondeo?

Getting dents removed and resprayed won't be much if any cheaper tbh.
Although if you aren't bothered about the car being perfect you could pull the dents out and respray the panel yourself.
Not when i got it no, all i did was a test drive, and HPI checks etc.
Ive taken it to my local garage since and he said the engine is sound, he also checked under the car where the damage is to make sure there was no hidden damage

The matiz was not even that good for MPG. As soon as you hit a hill the car cryed.
Full tank cost £35 and about 270 miles was what i got out of it, not sure what that is mpg wise, but it seems pretty low to me for a car that aint even a litre

Because you need to work it hard to keep up with normal traffic
Not sure if your joking here but you are right, I used to drive a Hyundai Getz 1.1 and on motorways it would always drop below 25mpg...

IME if you drive everywhere thrashing the nuts off a small engine, you will get less MPG than driving around in a car with a more powerful, less stressed and bigger capacity engine.Obviously going around town in a Getz will be more economical, but on A roads and Motorways it's a waste of time.
Yeah it does have to get worked hard. doing 50mph in 5th, and then out your foot down, you aint getting to 70 anytime soon.
