How did you pay for your car?

I've paid cash for all of mine. Not sure if I'd tackle a 10K+ purchase with cash though, if it ever happened. I'd have to come up with some way of getting the money from the bank without the idiots behind the counter being so damn obvious about handing over a large amount of cash.

This is very true. I had to get £6.5k out for mine which I gave them 3 days notice of (even then it was like a major drama). I expected to get 6 nicely bundled wads and 10 £50's... wrong. Mixture of £5's £10's and £20's which the woman spent a decade counting mouthing the amounts as she did so before handing me a huge envelope after giving me the "oooh, I wouldn't want to be carrying that much money around" :o

Paid 35% deposit + trade in and the remaining 10k on 0% Honda finance leaving my money in the ISA earning interest for the 3 years of the loan making the car effectivly even cheaper :D

Cash.

£700 Y Reg Astra LS estate 1.7 Dti.

I hate it with a passion but its very economical, costs less than £200 per year to insure and i only really use it for work.

It was the wife's dads from new and i bought it off him 3 years ago with 57k on the clock, it now has 114k on the clock.

Bought all my cars outright, although I did borrow a small ammount for my second car from my parents which was re-paid the following week.

It is amazing how many people buy on finance agreements, but then again it does depend on how those people manage their money. If they are secure then fine, but I'd never be totally happy owning the car until I had paid for it outright.

I've only ever owned 3 cars.
Corsa - cash £1.8k
Passat - cash £10k
Polo - cash £2.6k

And now a motorbike
ybr125 - cash £2.1k

I've never bought anything on finance yet and never had a loan in my life eather and I am 30 now LOL.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that someone at work just bought a second had car and she took a loan from a bank rather than finance from the dealer as she is basically getting a better deal with lower interest and overall less to pay back.

Bank Load > Dealer Finance

i bought one car on finance a good while back - was getting a car allowance from work and it worked out better than the leases most other people were doing.

Regretted having the extra debt hanging over me and overpaid it off pretty quickly. Since then I've just paid cash / credit card and part ex (where applicable) (credit card only for the points :))
