I'm doing some research on this drive for a friend. I've read that there is problems with this drives write speeds, according to anand. Is this true? How are you guys RealSSD's comming along?

Cheers.

According to a post I read, the firmware is due this week

This must be the post:

Although the validation and testing phase of the Crucial RealSSD C300 firmware update has taken longer than we initially expected, we are satisfied with the test results we've experienced to date. However, we still have a few more steps to complete in the process before we can share the updated firmware with our customers. We appreciate your continued patience - our plan is make the update available the first week of May, or earlier if possible.

Thanks!

I've not experienced any problems with the drive and I've been using it since the beginning of March.

write speeds etc stays the same? according to the benchmarks, they drop like hell after about 60gb has been used.

I’m over 80GB and mine is still fine:

The initial ones are here:

Since this was done there has been a rebuild with a new CPU and drivers.

I know that Anand have managed to brick a drive and a few people have encountered performance problems but it seems that majority haven’t experienced any problems. So it will be interesting to see exactly what this firmware fixes apart from the Anand problem.

Had my drive about 4 days. Installed Windows & other. 68gb used. My write speed on Seq is 91.30mb! Looks like I have the issue already. I've noticed the firmware is supposed to be out tomorrow. Glad I spotted this thread! My read speed on Seq is 349.27mb/s (similar to yours).

EDIT:
I ran the test again (four times) just to be sure and got about 199mb/s on the write speed. Strange! Maybe I both have the problem and haven't all at the same time :) Either way I hope they release the firmware tomorrow!

You should be aware the "dirty" state isn't a dirty state, but a IN USE LONG TERM state. average speed can drop if you do continuous writing, afaik, for like hours on end, which frankly, who the heck does.

Its not hugely surprising, trim will work in use as windows sends the commands to delete things as files are deleted, garbage collection is really an idle only thing and can't be "controlled" by the end user, its probably a case of trim not working yet and garbage collection not working till after a test is finished.

Anand reported the same thing and got confirmation from Crucial its only after the drive is in continuous use for a while that speeds can deteriorate, it doesn't mean long term normal use, it means long term write loading.

As you can see from Tom's numbers further down the page, the write speeds and i/o's are WELL above the other drives, as all reviews show. Its only a couple extended length benchmarks that do writes, over a ridiculous length of time without stopping, that make it hurt.

Honestly thats half the reason the Vertex has issues, no garbage collection and trim seems iffy at the moment with it. The problems with new drives get ironed out, Indilinx drives for the first couple months without trim had horrible extended use performance.

The crucial is faster than every other drive out there, the only situation I wouldn't use it in was as a server that will be used consistantly all day long and being writen too, and no one should use a ssd for that, as it will die in a few months that way.

firmware v0002 reportedly solves the problem of slow downs after many hours of use. it was only the update software that was bricking drives, which is now fixed.

only time will tell, im sure, but its worth the effort of getting these drives to work, they rock! the sequential is really helping me and my computer isnt in a server.
