Classic OCUK snobbery by the usual suspects. I happily shop at Asda, I am more concerned with doing my shopping than checking what other shoppers are wearing.

I find the staff in my local Asda very polite and always happy. Now my local Morrisions, totally different story.

I don't have a problem with ASDA, I don't feel the need to judge other people while I shop. I'll agree that TESCO have more offers, but while they mean items are cheaper, you have to spend more to get that cheapness:
3 for 2: I only need one.
2 for £x.yy: I only need one.
BOGOF: Never seen one outside of coop...

The way I shop, they are the cheapest. I like the massive boost in after-sales service since the WAL*MART take-over too. In Kendal, certain members of staff recognise us as regular shoppers.

I never knew supermarket snobery existed. Surley common sense dictates you do your shopping at the cheapest? They all have very simlar products and the quality really is negligible.

For you social outcasts out there who don't like to shop with the "scumbags" do your shopping online or do your shopping at 6am to avoid any contact with the masses.

From a Supply Chain Point of View, Tesco, Asda, Waitrose with Morrisons a very distant last.....

Few people get to see supermarkets "from the other side" as such.... ;)

While I usually shop at ASDA, when I pick up the treats to take to work on my birthday, I use Sainsburry's. Their doughnuts are far superior. Oh, and yes; we buy the department cake on our birthday, its the best thing ever, treats in the kitchen about 2 times a week.

Most people live much closer to one particular supermarket than another. I for one detest the whole travelling to, finding a parking space, shopping, queuing, returning and unpacking routine so i just go to my closest one which happens to be a big Tesco, one minute drive away and listen to a podcast on my mp3 player. Another factor is that i know where everything is there so i'm not running around like a headless chicken trying to find a free member of staff who can take a guess and send me to the wrong aisle. I'd much rather the 'shopping experience' be as painless as possible than save a couple of quid, however i'd rather go there than buy online and not know how the bananas are going to look like when they arrive.

Morrison's produce and meat seem a lot better than other supermarkets but the rest of the store seem pretty much identical although I do tend to find Morrison's have a few more deals & offers.

Your view on supermarkets will often largely be based on the ones closest to you.

ASDA here is a horrendous beast of a place full of scum.
Morrisons is a much smaller place also full of scum, poorly lit, staffed by oiks.
Tesco is much better but a bit small.
Sainsbury is as far away as ASDA so we rarely bother with either.
M&S is in another league when it comes to service and generally much better for foodstuff, but again it's too far away and it's expensive of course.
Never seen a Waitrose round here but there must be one as the mother in law gets her food delivered by them I think.

When I lived in Wales the local ASDA was new and really quite nice, then Tesco came along and built a bigger, better, nicer store just down the road. Morrisons was in the same retail park but further away so didn't used to bother with it.

Usually end up in Tesco.

I hate supermarkets, go to France if you want a decent one. There are far fewer morons, the staff don't get in your way and the food selection is so much better. The newer HyperU and SuperU stores are pretty damn awesome.

Fox read it "I feel dirty just walking into an Asda. Most of the people that shop in my local must be related". Do you agree? If you do MoH means nothing. EDIT 1st time I've EVER said that.

'I may not agree with what he says but I shall defend his right to say it'

You came right out with a blatant and direct personal attack!

You can edit my post Fox but the truth is I quoted you word for word. Shame on you.

What?! I can't edit posts, I'm not a moderator? Everyone can see exactly what you posted - I can't edit it, only a Don can edit it  You didn't quote me at all, you quoted somebody else and called him a *****.

I'm amazed at the hate for Asda! We have a big Asda and 2 big Tesco's here (Mansfield) - they're all perfectly decent and always well stocked, but a full trolley at Tesco will easily cost 30-50% more than a full trolley at Asda.

In my experience, Asda has long running deals on the regular stuff I buy, Tesco tends to have deals on stuff that I might get as an extra.

Asda is the only close 24hr store to me, I absolutely hate shopping in the daytime with people hovering around as if there's no one else trying to shop too. They also put on some reasonable music and there's loads of staff around to help if needed. I used to prefer tesco but it's not 24hr.

The ASDA by me just seems to be a battleground between the local toddlers pulling stuff off the shelves and stamping on it then the staff trying to repair the items and placing them back on the shelves.

Personally, I like Waitrose their essential range is very tasty and rather well-priced + their wine selection is waayyy better than all the other supermarkets.

I miss Safeway, that was the best supermarket ever. Its still as good in the USA though.
