i recently flashed the bios on my xfx 5970 BE to enable fan control and also installed the overvolt tool and increased the voltage on both settings to max and increased the gpu setting in CCC to 875/1200.

i ran 3D Mark 05 and only got around 15K, this is with my i7 930 at 4ghz and an ex 58 ud5 mobo, 6gb ddr 3 mem. i'm pretty sure that when i first ran the card on 3D mark 05 a couple of weeks ago i got about 30k. i've put the gpu back at stock levels and the score is still the same?

vantage was about the same score as well. all my games run perfectly fine and smoothly at max levels. i was just confused about why my 3D mark scores had changed drastically?

i was hitting about 60fps on both 3D mark benches, as well as 60fps on Batman AA bench and about 60fps on JC 2.

when o'c the 5970 would it be safe for me to set both voltages on max using the overvolt tool and stock fan with 875/1200 in CCC. finally, i guess i should o'c both gpu's in CCC at 875/1200.

Well 3dmark06 is mainly cpu based and is completely out of date for the cards of today.
Upgrading your cpu gives a better increase than a new graphics card, which seems silly on a gpu benchmark program.

I can only assume that if 3dmark06 is out of date and now of little use then 3dmark05 must be too.

Use 3d mark vantage and I bet your results will be fine:)

As above, check v-synch in CCC (Wait for Vertical Refresh should be Off - or on performance)

Also, is 3DM 05 a typo ?

thanks for the replies, disabled v sync in CCC but still getting 60fps max in 3 mark 05 (not a typo) and the same with vantage?

Odd - any other profiling apps ?

05 or 06 you should be getting around the 30K mark (slightly lower in 06) but of your limited to 60fps something is resticting performance somewhere

What are you using to measure FPS, just the benchmarks ?

right i think i found the problem, i had D3DOVERIDER running in my taskbar, i disabled that and my 3D mark 05 score is now a respectable 34K. going back to my earlier question about o'c the gpu. would you recommend increasing both voltages to max in the overvolt tool and what would a good o'c be in CCC using stock cooler, thanks

Why would you use 3D Mark 05? It's over 5 years old, use something new, Vantage at least, and then play some games.

i know it's a bit dated but the others require a different email address everytime you run the benchmark

As well as being dated, it's also quite irrelevant as it's not a good example of current hardware performance.

vantage score now at 24734, a lot better. was the D3doverider causing the low fps (this was running in background to combat the tearing in metro 2033)

no, sorry mate, just curious - That sounds fine :D

My rig with GPUs at stock (820/1200 - slightly higher than the 5970?) and CPU again slightly higher at 4.2 gets in the 28K region

Just always interested i the newer cards performance

Cheers

ok, thanks. you had me going there for a second:eek: are you using the overvolt tool or something else to oc your card? any stability issues and what voltage are you running at? ta

edit. just seen your sig, you're running 2 x 5870

yep 2x5870 :)

I can ramp the OC upto ~ 1020 / 1220 depending on the bench (sometimes higher, sometimes lower) using MSI AB - voltage at 1.350

Also they are Gigabyte cards fkashed with the Asus BIOS

Crikey what am I doing wrong?

I've got a Q9650 @ 4Ghz, 8GB RAM, 160GB Intel SSD and a 5970 @ stock using Cat 10.4's.

Running Vantage with 'Performance' presets I get a measily 21k odd overall :S
