My new pet

I think he is a Congo Green

He looks great.:D

Yeah he is a Congo Green. Shed last night after keeping me guessing playing with his food for a couple of days. I couldn't tell if he was going off for a shed or turning his nose up at my offerings as he would have a nibble and then leave them. Makes for a good laugh though; he's becoming quite the character, I get him out for half an hour or so each day while uni isn't on to have a play and give him some exercise. Not strictly needed but i'm keeping him purely as a pet so i'm trying to instill tameness/loyalty and build some personality.

That is the coolest most badass "pet" i have ever seen, this thread has got me quite into this and wanting to get a couple of different species (to keep seperatley ofc) it's a shame about the life span though, a big part of the fun/fasination must surely be watching them eat and grow but the more they grow the nearer they are to the end of their lifespan?

Do they not try and do a runner, the really small ones look like they would take some catching/finding?

Any recommended suppliers?

Got some bark across the back for her to climb up and a few twigs to help her around :)

Drilled some vent holes either side, one big one stuffed with sponge as a feeding hole, and cut the middle of the lid off and hot glued some mesh over it and voila :D

Is that not a bit too small to keep it in ? Looks kind of cruel to me.

Harold's back on his food after a shed. Took him a few tries to get this spider, it wasn't a web building one but a jumping one and it kept leaping out of his grasp until eventually he managed to pin it down ;)

its more than 3 times the height and twice the width, which is all they need, have a bigger one of the same thing once she gets older.

That pic is sideweays on btw in case anyone didnt realise :p

Yes I guessed that it was sideways. How big do these things grow ?

Yeah, you have to keep them seperate. Certain species *can* be kept together if there is a plentiful supply of food but you still have to keep an eye on them.

mine has now decided she doesnt want to it, just watched a locust walk straight under her lol

Hopefully she will shed in a day or 2, will try her with some smaller food if i can find some :p

Mine just arrived from eBay! Five tinee tiny Egyptian Mantis nymphs. Really cool! Now I just need five jam jars :p. Also bought some micro crickets and a fruit fly culture for them too. So excited!

if they are really small just use plastic half pint pots / pint pots with some netting over the top and a few holes in, cheap and easy :D

Nice one Russ, get some pictures up! You don't need Jam jars though, Tesco Value tupperware stuff should be fine I'd think ;)

All sorted now guys, actually went for lunch in a deli the same day and spotted their yoghurt pot things so asked for four empty ones - perfect! Just pierced the lid with a tip of a needle for now.

Crickets and fruit fly cultures arrived today too! Will get some pictures once I find my macro extension tubes :p.
