strategy pc games

My favorite all time strategy games are Starcraft and Red Alert 2. Can recommend the Dawn of War games too though.

Multiplayer though, on MSN Gaming Zone. Never really did the single player.

I used to love playing Panzer General 2. Are there any good WW2 turn based strategy games worth playing now???

PG was my first serious game, spent a lot of time there.

Combat Mission is well worth considering. Its a bit old and the graphics leave a lot to be desired but the gameplay is without equal.
Give yourself a couple of months to get used to it then join the hardcore online. I currently have 9 games going with folk from 6 different countries.

I was already like , played with 17 civs on massive maps before and I never got civ 4 to crash, most stable game I've played ever prolly, even with mods it's solid!

If anyone is up for some AOE2: Conq games, just gimme a bell, anything, blood maps, random (standard) games, RPG's, I'm up for anything.

It may have been the max Civs, I can't remember. Either way it was so frustrating. I was doing really well after a few days of playing and it crashed with memory problems. Reloaded from the last save and tried again... Crashed at a similar point...and again... and again...:p

Another suggestion for older games is the Close Combat series. An excellent set of games!

Is there a pattern here, a massive number of MS games!

Warcraft 3, best RTS forever. Battle.Net and all the mini levels community made like tower defence, something like today's alien swarm, it was all the dota, other great stuff and the best of them all, escape the gay heaven xD

And also classic gameplay, ah I miss those times when having a dragon avatar made you got amongst men.

Medieval 2: Total war comes in second, it's good but it aint epic fun like WarCraft 3 ;)

Also if we are talking about oldies Populous: The Beginning was mind-blowing, love it to bits.

star trek: Birth of the Federation - nothing like it has come close. Why no sequel is beyond me.

Sup Com 2: FA (also going to try the Complex mod soon)

Sins of a Solar Empire

A big vote for UFO Enemy Unknown. I also love Sid Mier's Colonization. The remake too!

Another one I'd urge people to try is a mod for Civ4 called 'Fall from Heaven 2'. It changes the game into a fantasy wargame with a full magic system, heroes, mobs etc. It's as fleshed out as the full game.

Oh and see my sig ;)

Does anyone else feel that recent strategy games just don't have the same "buzz" as older games such as the ones mentioned in here did.

I really haven't found any in the last 2 years that have really caught and engaged my attention like some of the classics :(

I'd love a decent remake of black & white. Playing through the first one again at the moment, it's a right pain with how buggy it is - creature forgetting miracles, greedy ******* temple worshippers, those God-damned desire flags! Plus they fixed the mega wood.food glitch for v1.3, which doesn't help in lands of limited wood, and food's never easy to come by for larger populations - at least, not enough to make a dent in the desire flag. Still, think I might run it through to completion this time round. Just about the head off to land 4 and catch some fireballs....

I'm gonna put this out there because it's actually a good game with lots of rpg-esque stats bulding and resource management, combined with very good battle mechanics: king arthur. That's right. Pretty game too.
