hello i have a 750gb hdd which is about 60% full i've had my eye on the intel 80gig SSD but i would like to put my windows 7 installation on it but not all my files as obviously they all wont fit how can i go about doing this ?

The intel one just went down in price so I guess you should go for that one, you'll need to boot up your os disk from the bios and select the new drive to installo the os on.

it cant be that simple surely wouldnt the 2 conflict even if one is set to master and the other slave ? i heard somewhere it would and i want to get windows off the HDD without deleteing all the files and just use it for storage?

Just do as footyfan93 says - connect the new SSD to your motherboard and boot from your OS disk. When installing Windows, select the SSD to install to. Your Windows installation will remain intact along with all your data on your hard disk. You can delete it once Windows has finished installing on your SSD if you wish.

so it really is just as simple as deleteing the windows file ? i thought that but then i thought knowing computers its never that simple.. i stand corrected lol

Yeah - when your computer boots it scans the drive you set as the boot drive for a Windows install. When it finds it, it will boot Windows. All that matters is the boot order set in the bios; so you could even install Windows on the SSD and leave it as it is on the HDD and boot from one or the other if you wanted as long as you set the boot order correctly (although I'm not sure why you would want to do that).

Yeah SSDs are cool. But the main thing that sucks is that they're so expensive for storage. I have a 60GB OCZ Vertex I use for Windows and apps and the system is very fast and very responsive. But I have to stick all my games on my 1TB hdd.

Game loading times from an SSD should be a fair bit faster, but that's about it really. When you think how much time you spend loading a level in a game (usually about 30s) compared to how long you actually spend playing it (hours?) it's not really worth it I don't think. Whereas using Windows itself, you're constantly opening different programs and moving files about etc.

Yeah spot on mate thats probly what im going to do run windows off the SSD and the games on my HDD maybe in the future sticking games on an SSD will be better obviously because prices will come down and eventually everyone will be able to afford 1tb SSD's its quite an exciteing tech because HDD's have only evolved in size and not much in speed. but if its as fast as everyones saying i can't wait to try it out.
