Googlemail dead...Gmail back

Good news :)

It doesn't really have any affect for me though as I registered an @gmail.com address back in 2004. I also noticed earlier today that the Gmail logo was showing in my inbox, rather than the Google Mail one. But it still says Google Mail and shows the Google Mail logo on the logon page.

I've had my gmail account since when the Beta testing came out 2004 so I've always held onto my gmail.com address

Edit:- Wonder how much the settlement was :D

Same here, have always had gmail.com as my email address.

No idea as it didnt give a figure but am glad they came to a settlement as i always thought googlemail.com was a bit too much to type out:p.

"Since 'gmail' is 50% fewer characters than 'googlemail,' we estimate this name change will save approximately 60 million keystrokes a day. At about 217 microjoules per keystroke, that's about the energy of 20 bonbons saved every day!"

I am cool and obviously already have a gmail account.

But why would that be a problem?

It's no hassle to you or others...

If you provide your email address as gmail.com but reply with googlemail.com, it's just not consistent. It's not a problem, just an annoyance.

GMail and most email clients auto-complete or have address books, so who cares if it is not consistent. Odds are you will only ever type someone's email address in its entirety once! :p
