Googlemail dead...Gmail back

Since "gmail" is 50% fewer characters than "googlemail," we estimate this name change will save approximately 60 million keystrokes a day. At about 217 microjoules per keystroke, that's about the energy of 20 bonbons saved every day!

Wonder if they will ever release gmail.co.uk, last I heard Google had lost the rights to that but you would have thought they would have just bought them back.

Got mine on 01/09/2004, didn't realise it had been that long....

Does anyone have any idea when we will be able to change the address?

I've always used Gmail and when I signed up I chose Gmail. But when I log in it says "loading____@googlemail".

I've gone through all the options and can't find any about changing the name. Will they be rolling this out over the next few days?

Basically they paid off this firm but not for as much as they initially asked.

And Googlemail isn't really 'dead' as users are allowd to keep their 'googlemail' postfixs and e-mails sent to the old address should you choose to chang over will still reach their target.

Me too, I remembered buggering about with the chat feature for a small while and then wondering why I went to all the bother of getting an invite to be honest.

does this mean those of us that have googlemail address will auotmatically be changed so it shows as gmail when sending email?

yay finally, I had an issue where paypal wouldn't accept emails back from me as it came from googlemail.com rather than gmail.com that they sent the original message to.
