The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I too am enjoying flying around the Eve Universe, although I don't seem to have ventured far from the Starter Station yet.
Loving the exploration side of things though, finding anomolies, salvaging, buying and selling from the market.

The g/f finally gave it a go after moaning that she couldn't see the text very well........she's been mining ALL day!!!!

I've popped into the OcUK channel for some help now and again, so thanks for the help fellas :)

Okay, slightly confused now :)

Went to the account management page which is charging me in euros, which is fine for the game. So it tells me to upgrade my trial account into a retail which costs 20 euros and includes 30 days play time. This, added to my 12 days left of my trial would give me 42 days. It says though that it auto applies a recurring charge of 15 euros which I cancel by cancelling my subscription.

If I upgrade my trial account for the 20 euro charge to get my 42 days total, then cancel the subscription so it won't reoccur as I'll opting for the game card route, will I still be able to play since I've cancelled it? Assuming yes, and at the end of the 42 days I put in a 60 day game time card which is bought with dollars, will it apply fine or will it tell me to sod off as I'm not American and the GTC was an American GTC, or does it not distinguish and that GTC will go in just fine? If it does, can I just buy the dollars GTC now or does it have some kinda dodgy expiry date?

Does that make sense?

Also, @ v2^, I noticed you have an affilation link with that shatteredcrystal place, but it doesn't link directly to a 60 day GTC. If I just follow the link from your site and then browse to a 60 day GTC will you still get some commission? Just thought I'd go through your affliate link since your site is proving invaluable for me at the moment.

yes, you will be able to play up until your subscription is paid for.

In fact, you can add a game time card straight away and it will just be added on to the end of the subscription time. it doesn't matter where it was purchased from or what currency as long as it's a valid GTC :)

Hey fellas, not been on here in ages but i stumbled across EVE in a shop in town and really like the look of it. Tried it a few years ago but couldnt really get into it (was a massive BF2 fan) so abit of a contrast of game type lol.

Just a few questions........
1. Will my rig run it ok?
2. My internet connection is horrifically slow, can play PS3/360 online fine though.
3. Ive got my pc hooked up to a cheap 32inch LCD tv via HDMI. Some games i try and play i get a out of range error. Basically the tv cant support the res so it there a way i can fiddle with the config file to get it going? I usually use 1142x748 i think.

Many thanks and hope to see you guys soon

In regards to #1 I wouldn't worry about that, your system is very similar to mine (E8400, HD4580, 4gb DDR2, Abit IP35 Pro) and I run it easily at 60fps with everything maxed out at a higher resolution than you are looking to run it at. Not sure on the others though.

1. Lots of people play on older systems and run it fune mate. My laptop plays the game great and it's a few years old.
2. Yes. I've personnally played it on one of those mobile internet dongle things without any issues despite being unable to download anything about 25kb/s.
3. Not sure but I would imagine so.

It's called a corp :p....but yes they do. I think most of the people that play from these forums have been in the OcUK corp at some stage of their Eve Career. Certainly a good starting point as the game can be very confusing when you first get going.

Other than Jetcan mining with a Bantam, is filling cargo, heading to station, offloading, then heading back out the only real option for solo mining? Just getting a bit of a pita filling up the hold in 4 blasts of the miner I (using 2, so basically 2 minutes = full) and Jetcaning I'm not really comfortable with yet, plus my ship is wussy and I can't really do much if someone stole from the can.

I have a badger.. but general concesus is don't mine with a badger due to lack of bonuses and only have 1 laser slot?

You can get a secure can, can't be nicked from. Smaller than a jetcan, but huge compared to the hold of most ships.

Or get a second account that can fly an orca along side your mining ship :D

Looked into those secure cans, seems they can only be used in 0.7 or below space, but currently I'm mining Veldar in 0.9's as I've got a nice route going and don't fancy breaking it unless price drops too much where I'm selling the Veldar at, meaning I'll have to haul it somewhere. If it comes to that, think I'll check out the secure cans.

Thought about a trial account to mine and get my main account to haul with my badger, but seems I can get my Osprey in about 4 days worth of training and outfitting that with extended cargoholds II which will more than double what I can carry now with my Bantam so I'm just holding out until then :)

Had a question if no one minds answering - what skill improves CPU of the ship? I know at least one improves it but I can't find which one. So I'm having to use a co-processor on my setup to add extra CPU power, but if I could get some skill to boost it I could drop the co-processor and add something more useful like extra storage.

Thanks for the suggestions by the way chaps

Electronics adds 5% to your CPU output. It's a must have. There are others that reduce the CPU usage of modules, but those are more specific.
