***Official Halo Reach Beta Thread***

Had some good games with 4 of us, a few server problems but once you were in game things seemed fine. Like the new voting system, like the new friends view thing. All in all it's looking really good so far.
 
you all know about the Avatar Award for playing the Beta yeah?

if not, go to Halo Waypoint and view your career and it will unlock (mine did with a load of ODST ones I hadn't seen before) ;)
 
Some quick tips to shorten your wait.

So, yup some stuff is on fire here at the office and if the forums are any indication, we were totally unprepared, don't care about our real fans, and should totally give everyone their zero dollars back with a side of free Xbox LIVE. While none of that's the case, our test team just broke away from an epic struggle with some molten server metal and 600,000 players to deliver us some quick tips to help you get games going a little bit faster.

1. Don't restart your search, even if load times are long. The initial load for map and game type will take a really long time, which is super lame, but once you've made the connection, the files will be cached to your hard drive and the next time you load to same map/game type, it should be nice and fast.
2. Don't reboot or reload the beta. It won't help and it will actually clear your cache, making your wait times much longer.
3. Don't leave your party. Since everybody in the party has to load the same files, your wait is tied to other player's download process as well. Stick with the same crew and things should iron out.

credit thing is fixed seemingly and i am actually gaining XP, server problems can be annoying mind but overall the game is pretty good so far, cant say i have had any actual in-game issues at all just server related. was hoping that armour upgrades would actually do something except be 'cosmetic' mind, any chance for final release? does anyone know the actual release date either yet, has it been leaked at all? :)

That would unbalance the playing field, which unlike some other developers, Bungie would never do.

Lesson 1: Don't **** on newcomers.

What makes Halo the best multiplayer shooter (imo) is it's so easy to pick up but difficult to get really, really good at it.
 
had no problems on MW2 when i started playing it, so many people with cold blooded, heartbeat sensors, thermal scopes, etc. just have to stick with it, IMO its part of what helps you grow as a player. wasn't implying making some needlessly super armour, just bits and pieces to maybe add some more diversity to the gameplay. one of the best things about MW2 is how you can customise your loadout to the way you play, and it never felt unbalanced TBH. just an opinion...
 
It amazes me how many idiots are playing this, they don't seem to understand that leaving a party once connected is not a good idea!! As if the past 30 mins of trying to find a game didn't explain that well enough.

Yes and no. The movement isnt the same a pc mouse. You got auto aim, acceleration, dead zones ect. judging by the bad company and halo stats of the XIM users on their forum they aren't that much of advantage. In fact most of them seem to have below average stats.

had quite a few games last night, Stockpile and CTF are my fave modes atm, Although I did enjoy Covy Slayer, but hated SWAT.
 
Had about 3 games last night. as I got fed up with the waiting. But it felt good. When I played Halo3 release, (I thought the Halo3 beta was better than the released game) There was always something in the back of my mind that was saying "This is broken". I tried blaming myself (as its always a good place to start and typically my team tend to blame me first anyway).

I played a bit of Halo2 a few weeks back and that brought home how broken Halo3 was. Hopefully Bungie (is it Bungie or MS studios releasing this game) have learned from their mistakes and going forward as I play with more of the guns and the various equipment types more, I will not find any "Broken" aspects (other than those that can be fixed before release)

Oh and the pistol Rules \o/
 
I managed to squeeze in two quick games this morning and I did find it fun - I love the introduction of the armour powers - favouring the stalker at the moment, but the Guardian can be pretty useful (can any one confirm it does damage? I swore as I punched the ground an enemy who had no shield next to me died because of it?).

Look forward to some more in depth gaming later with some chums - already have the game pre-ordered as I do enjoy the series.

I could never force myself in to liking the Halo 3 multiplayer as I normally prefer shooters such a MW2 and BFBC2, but Im quite enjoying this. The only thing spoiling it for me, is the amount of damage you need to inflict in killing someone. Using the battle rifle from a distance takes a lot of shots, by then one of my team mates has stolen my kill.

Im still undecided. I want to like it, I really do, but its like Gears Of War, takes a full clip to kill someone.

1. there is no battle rifle
2. It takes 4 shots (3 anywhere and one to the head)

The only weapon I'm finding underpowered is the Assault rifle, both the pistol and human battle rifle like gun that i can't remember the acronym for kill in four shots (or 8 if all to the body)
 
I'd be curious to know how they work out credits, I seem to get about 100-120 each match yet one i got over 300 for doing...not much different :confused:

They need to tone down grenade blast radius as well, they're much too powerful at the moment.
 
Just had an awesome game!! This could be a brilliant team game if played with the right people. BlaiRinsta is the tag!
