Final pre-election polls are out

Cons 34-36%, Labs and Libs pretty much level on 27-29%, with some polls showing the Liberals ahead, some showing Labour ahead. What that will mean in terms of seats is pretty much anyone's guess, about the only thing we can be sure of is that UNS will not accurately predict the result. The pollsters themselves are predicting a pretty big spread of seats, with Angus Reid predicting a Tory majority.

Will be voting Lib-dem in the morning.. they have the least deal-breakers for me..

To be honest I really don't think it will matter all to much.. we will be seeing 20% VAT and 2-6p / £ on income tax at some point in the next 6 - 18 months however is in..

If Blair was still PM I might have voted Labour.. at least he would have lied to me charismatically :D

I think the most disappointing thing if the Tories get an outright majority will be the loss of opportunity for any meaningful electoral reform for potentially decades - I'm not too fussed about the rest of the policies as there's hardly much to separate the parties behind the soundbites and suchlike, especially if Cameron sticks to his professed green, NHS-friendly, 'big society' agenda which is virtually Labour in '97 - he truly is the 'heir to Blair' in those respects.

For all of you who are voting tory, surely this picture is so offensive that you will change your mind please?

Labour's political reform idea is far worse than the tories if you want a representative parliament...

What's that got to do with a Tory majority killing off any chance of meaningful reform?

Well, their proposal to reduce the number of and equalise the size of consitutencies will do more to improve electoral fairness than Labour's proposal of AV will.

I, like yourself, would prefer actual proportional representation, but I can also see plenty of drawbacks with the whole idea...

No, if anything it strengthens it, I do not want the country run by poorly educated thickos thank you very much.

Except that with three genuinely competing parties, the FPP system has been shown up as wholly unrepresentative and disenfranchising. The fact that the Tories use examples like "the BNP could get 10 seats" under PR - well duh that's the point - those opinions exist and shouldn't just be ignored and the disenfranchisement of those individuals only enhances the fringe party's attractiveness.

I would, at the very least, like to see a form of reasonable debate and/or referendum to change to a more proportional voting system - something which Cameron has made clear will not happen under his (outright) leadership.

And AV is worse, which is my point, and is what Labour are offering (the Lib Dems don't have any more chance of getting true PR out of Labour than they do the Tories).

So would I, please don't get me wrong, however I think I disagree with the lib dems on their preferred proportional representation (they want STV, I prefer MMP/AMS), but I'm not convinced that the country is truly ready for proportional representation yet, because it will massively change the political landscape. I can see all three major parties fragmenting under PR, as there are ideological groupings within each of them, although the Lib dems could suffer the most with the split between liberals and social democrats over many issues...
