Just voted, slight ripoff warning ..

As stated above - the main reason they do this - is to know who has voted - so they can cross calling at the house off - that's the only reason they do it here anyway. I know because a good friend is doing exactly this job today and has done on all election days ;)

Why are you so concerned though.

They can still get your name and address / DOB off the electoral register anyway whether you give them your number or not - they just can't cross-reference the two.
(and anyone can purchase the entire register for whatever reason - Even If I wanted to see how many females were living in my estate from Age 35-45 - so I could knock on all their doors to sell them a new anti-wrinkle cream, which I'm sure would be a lot more annoying for people)

And in this information age - I could find out a million other things about you that would be far more beneficial to me - far more quickly if I wanted to anyway - so I'm sure a Political party could with a lot more ease if they really had the need. And if they want to address the stuff to me - rather than just post it to the occupier - big whoop.

I wasn't trying all that hard to insult you, I just think it is a little silly to get annoyed at someone asking you a totally legit question. Voting isn't 'supposed' to be private, you merely have the right to anonymity, and the right not to have to answer that question, and they absolutely have the right to ask you the question.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that one of the rules regarding telling is that they are not allowed to ask anyone how they have/will vote. Although saying that one of the other rules was that they are only supposed to approach people when they leave the polling station, and that rule was very seldom adhered to.

Surely them knowing I've voted means they're much more likely to create policies that appeal to me (or my demographic) in the future. That's far more important the not getting a bit of junk mail through the door.

I went postal. But with all those barcodes and numbers on the paper they'll know everything they need too. It may explain why the Tories didn't bother me with any direct election guff this time. The Lib Dems did, but I'm already Clegg's boy... :D

Postal vote.

If it got there. I've seen a few mis-sorted ballot returns today.

I was also out doing collections and found a few ballot envelopes in a couple of post boxes. Bit late now, chum! :D

I'm well aware of this practice. I don't mind at all, and had a brief chat with the lady doing it. They had a Labour and Conservative representative sharing numbers.

Damn... Gave the person my card at the door... I thought it was a little odd when they wanted to see it yet again inside...
