I'm proud to be British and you'll have to tear my passport from my cold dead hands. I used to think that there are a lot of things wrong with the UK but after living abroad and working in an international office you learn that despite these things the UK is still top of the pile.
I agree with that really. What's the point even having a nationality if you can change it.
If I moved to Australia for example, and gained citizenship, I would still be English/British. I would happily be known as an English man. The thing I never understand in such circumstances is that, if I did emigrate there (or anywhere really, was just the first country that popped into my head) I wouldn't get offended if someone called be a Brit or referred to me as Engliah in any way. Also I wouldn't demand people forget that bit and call me 'european' I just don't get the continent thing.
I agree, true British is to be born here. At least being Naturalised as British I can get a British passport and state benefits if I ever need them (not that I will *touchwood* but least I can if the need arises)
i have no idea why you would want to become British, apart from to abuse our benefit system which you don't actually have to be British to do... you can do that as an illegal immigrant for all the government cares.
