Dance in the Vampire Bund is good stuff if you want to watch some supernatural action and drama/politics. Don't let the intro put you off. xD

Already seen it fairly recently, decided to watch exactly because of the vampire/supernatural aspect.
I was able to put aside my dislike and the creepy factor of the loli side when I realised this was actually a subversion, with her young form being a disguise and her actual form and age being considerably more adult.

A surprisingly happy ending too, especially after the fairly bad vibe inducing episodes before. Probably the strangest romance I have seen although kinda sweet in a way; despite how Mina sometimes had to act and what she had to do, as the series went on it really built up a sense of how much she was in love with the male lead! In that sense I enjoyed it a lot more than True Blood to say the least, which being live action and well rated you would think I should prefer (despite having a lot that would normally attract me, I just really didnt think much of it, and ended up sending back the 3rd disc from lovefilm unwatched).

I was interested in taking a look at the manga but seems it has been hit a lot by the mature crackdown going on right now, ironic really as in plot terms it IS a subversion and Mina is actually older than a decent % of the cast despite looking younger.

Hahah, me thinks you have too much hobbie cash for your own good :D
Just don't expect too much from Origin, it was very pretty, but a bit hollow. Better than watching most of the cack on TV though, at least its visually stunning.

Oddly enough my anime etc only works out at about £20 a week:p (and i don't drink/smoke).
I gave up comics about the time I started on anime, largely because my supplier at the time stopped doing them, and the series I was most interested in had stopped (Gen 13, BC, and DG).

Aye I've heard origin isn't great, but it only cost a few pounds :)

erp, my resolve not to order any more anime in May lasted all of about 5 days, the chance of getting the GITS 2.0/GITS: Innocence blu-ray double pack for £11 was a little too much to miss.

I've been watching classic YUA for the past couple of days, I'd forgotten how funny it is (although I think I only watched it about 6 months ago???).
I may give it a miss tonight and watch Memories, as I've been getting an urge to rewatch that since spotting it in my collection the other night.

With a little luck Origin Spirits of the Past (blu) will arrive tomorrow, as I suspect there is not going to be much on TV ;)

Lol, know the feeling ... although I think I am at my lowest level of orders in years at the moment with only Kanokon vol 1, Maria-sama season 4 and Toradora Pt 1 on order (and I will need to order Kanokon vol 2 and Hayate Pt 6 which are now solicited for August). There's a few other things I am considering ordering though ... :)

It's always good to rewatch things I find ... particularly when you have quite a bit of anime as you do tend to forget how good some things are ... and YUA is just that good :)

Origin is great though from what I do remember ...

Working my way through Asu no Yoichi (Samurai Harem) at the moment (Sentai release). Which is amusing with a reasonable amount of fanservice but did seem to drag a bit at times during the first half I watched last night.

edit:

Finished Asu no Yoichi .... quite an amusing series. Not great but a pretty good watch. Did notice what appeared to be some poor encoding in the last episode, there was one brief shot, only a few seconds, where it looked like there was a line of poor video in part of the screen, kinda like you used to get on VCRs if the head was a bit dirty.

Been off for the day so binged the rest of Vampire Knight, not a great series but it seems well done and despite coming from Deen, who I understand are not big players or known for quality, the animation seemed fine.
I think I will find myself watching the second season sometime as there are quite a few unanswered questions, and there seem to be a lot of hints the female protaganist is not necessarily who or what she thinks she is or will become, even the OP and ED seem to hint rather heavily at it if you watch some of the scenes rather than just skipping. Then there are her eyes, all the normal human characters have normal coloured eyes, whereas hers are muted crimson, which I noticed pretty quickly.
The japanese seem to favour colour symbology so Id say thats a pretty sure sign she isn't 100% human, even if the muted colour compared to the vampires suggest either that element is subdued or unawakened.

Think I will watch Kimi ni Todake first next though, I also have Kanon 06 on the list for the near future as an intro to Key's work, as Im interested in taking a look at Angel Beats once that has finished. Those and Witchblade not to mention the remaining discs of RomeoXJuliet (3 arrived from Lovefilm today) should keep me busy for a while.
I hope we see a growth in Bluray releases though, if Origin showed me anything, it was that anime done properly for Blu, rather than shoddily upscaled, can look absolutely stunning.

Well theres the 2002 Toei version of Kanon, and then 2005's Air which pretty much started the later Key and KyoAni collaborations for Kanon 2006 and Clannad.

Yeah, it's interesting to see how KyoAni's adaptation of Keys work improved series by series, Air -> Kanon -> Clannad.

Can't say that I think much of the Toei versions though, either the earlier Kanon series adaptation or the films for Air and Clannad.

Some of the animation errors are pretty bad in Angel Beats though, pity they got someone else to do that series.

That TK character in Angel Beats is just hilarious and now I realise that his initals are a huge nod to "Tetsuya Komuro", a famous music producer who was very prominent in the 90's. It's made even obvious when the random one liners that he spouts out are also lyrics from TM NETWORK songs, Komuro's main and original 3-piece band where he is their keyboardist. Help thats I am a huge fan of them too. :p

I didn't know that, lol :D

Yeah he totally gave it away when he said "Get chance and luck!" in episode 3, which is part of the lyrics for "Get Wild", one of the most famous TM NETWORK songs as it was used for one of the endings in City Hunter.

The TK character is certainly a good advertisement for this old school band though. :p

Pretty much why I avoided those, I heard the previous incarnations were a bit ****. Clannad Im interested in but avoiding overtly sad anime where possible.

hmmmm .... I have to say I do wonder about Kanon in that case; one of the improvements I felt between Kanon and Clannad was the improved balance of sad/"emotionally intense" parts against lighter parts. This balance felt better, to me, in the Clannad series' over Kanon (not to say the intense bits weren't still intense). The Clannad movie should be avoided as well prior to the series' due to spoiler issues.

Having finished Asu no Yoichi ahead of schedule I was a bit of loss this evening so decided to re-watch the third series of A__a. So far covered the OVA and episodes one through five and I think that episode four has to be one of my favourite episodes of all the of the A__a series as you get to see Akari interacting with undines outside the normal cast and see their impressions of the Primas and the job which they do.

I just finished Origin, which was certainly quite enjoyable and great eye candy, even if the story had a few minor inconsistencies/problems (especially with one device later on).

Re the old Key anime, I agree fully the newer ones are much better than the original ones (new Kanon especially compared to the original).

Memyselfandi, that episode of A, was the Tragatto one wasn't it? (Akari on the "bus" with the 3 trainees including the one who wants to keep doing the Tragatto).
I really liked that one, as you say it's one of the few were you see aspects of the Undines outside of the main 6, it's also got a very important hint as to something, if it's the one I think it is :)

I suspect I'll probably ne watching A from start to finish before too long, possibly in the next couple of weeks, as if I leave it until mid June, I won't get a chance for ages (June sees my biggest TRSI order for years, with about 50 hours of stuff).

Always a nice thing to get ;)

Btw, incase anyone doesnt have it, RS currently have S&W Season 1 on dvd for approx £20 ($35) on the weekly sale. Up1 are still asking £33 for it, so if you're making an order, it works out cheaper...or should. Also got Higurashi boxed set for $30 which seems to be relatively cheap, as well as a load of other stuff in the bargain bin (think theres more there than last I looked) :)
Tempted, I hate supernatural and all :p

That's a good price for it :)

I was reading earlier that it sounds like Bandai US might be in a little money trouble going from some comments made by one of the industry guys, which would gel with some of the issues they've had in getting releases out on time, and general lack of new licences etc in the States (it reminds me rather a lot of ADV just before they went under), with their big gamble probably being the new Haruhi licences.
Hopefully they aren't in any real trouble and it's a case of people putting 2+2 together to get 5, but the signs are reminiscent of the CPM, Genoen and ADV situations from what i've been reading and now that someone has pointed them out.

There's been rumbling about Bandai US being in difficulties for the last 1.5-2 years. It's not that surprising really given how much the price people are expecting to pay for anime has dropped so much in the last few years (mostly due to the move from singles to sets). Online piracy is also of course an issue as well.

The other problem that Bandai US have is that, even when they do put disks out on time, there have been way to many instances where there have been issues with those disks ... which of course would add to their expenses to sort out.

I just hope that they can put out the 2k9 series and movie(s) for MoHS in a decent release pattern and on working disks ...

Speaking of A__a .... got a couple of related things while I was away:

These are artbooks by Kozue Amano and are really nicely done. The artwork inside is the slightly more stylized A__a art you see around online, (kind of like the cover of the other book below), more in the style of the manga than the anime, plus other related and unrelated art. The covers look a bit faded in the photos but this is because they are actually in full size, slightly frosted, plastic sleeves. These books are also hardback volumes.

The other A__a art book I got is this one:

This is more of a standard artbook in presentation. Whilst the cover looks like the art should be the same as the above volumes the art within is actually more in the style of the anime and looks like the lithographs which TRSI are putting out (in fact I think the pictures they are using are included in the book).
