The Pacific - Anyone else a little disappointed?

Three separate character storylines (Basilone, Leckie and Eugene) don't work in a short series like this, even if Leckie and Eugene's mate started in the same company as Basilone. Of the characters around them I can't even remember who's alive or dead, let alone their names. Don't get me wrong, as an illustration of the horrors of that conflict it's pretty good, but there's no point taking much of an interest in any of the characters apart from Leckie and Eugene.

Its storyline and smoothness is not a patch on BoB, not sure if it every was intended but the action and settings is amazing and beats BoB hands down.

The action doesnt beat BoB imo at all. The battle scenes in BoB were longer and grittier and had a purpose whereas in TP they are short with little structure or information on the objective.

It's been pretty dire so far but I'm overly hard to please as it is. I found a few flaws in Band of Brothers but overall it was far grander than this will ever achieve. Despite all that BOB had to offer from the action to the visual effects, the main achievement was the characters, in my opinion. After the second episode you got to know the every character and their personality, a bond which grew stronger throughout the entire series.

This was probably set out to achieve a different goal and style entirely and as a couple of hours worth of entertainment, it's pretty good especially the style of filming and effects. However, it doesn't stay with you the way Band of Brothers and the men of Easy Company did and for that, it's a million miles away! :)

Only watched the first episode so far, but it definately hasn't gripped me in the same way Band of Brothers did. Shame, as I was REALLY looking forward to this.

Same here was looking forward to it, but been a bit dissapointed. Not to say its bad, but having watched spartacus blood and sand before this i feel let down.

The battles I've seen saw far in the pacific seem to follow:

Wait till dark.
Unload belt after belt of ammo at the other side of the field.
Wait till light.
Discover millions of dead japs.

Disappointed here too, i just think the focus is too broad and flicks between separate stories too much. Yes BoB focused on certain characters in each episode but the storyline flowed a lot better, pacific just seems all over the place.

I watched the first 3 episodes then stopped. Band of brothers is better in every way - The Pacific had absolutely no character development. Me no like :(

I'm thinking this.

I've watched the first 3 episodes, got them all recorded(ing) on Sky+HD but I don't feel excited about watching them.

It's entertainment, but the characters just feel bland and more difficult to follow than Band of Brothers and it just seems a bit dull and steady.

It's not bad though.

+ Shag some random bird and then talk for 10mins.

and that sum's up most of the series so far.

I have only watched two episodes so far but I have the same feeling as the majority in this thread. I don't remember BoB being so boring and tiresome after the second episode. I have all the episodes on Sky+ but I don't know if I can be bothered to continue watching. It is a good show, don't get me wrong, but it simply doesn't live up to the expectations that I have after the whole hype of it being a "successor" to BoB. It definitely isn't anywhere near as good so far. I'm gonna watch BoB again before watching it further.

Well you just admitted that its a good show, so why not watch them as you have them recorded. Could understand not watching a bad show, but not watching something which you consider to be good doesn't make much sense to me.

Yes dissapointed, they could have at least named the episodes like in Band Of Brothers, instead we get "The Pacific - Part 1"....

The books are a much better investment, nevermind this on bluray. Very disapointed for something that held so much promise.

I watched the first two episodes; I’ve missed every other one since –DOH!

I can see where you are coming from OP, the only character I connected with out was the reporter guy, I actually felt pretty bad for the guy when he was saying farewell to his dad, and the actor did a pretty good job of portraying the visual emotions of killing people in war.

I think I’ll still pick it up when it’s released on disc, I’m hoping it picks up the pace…
