The problem is as I've said in other threads, the vast majority of people don't change their party, they don't put much thought into their vote other than "its who I've always voted for" and FAR to many people don't have a clue what "their" party is up too or why they are voting for them.

In any election its a small portion of votes up for grabs and the tories have clearly grabbed almost every single last one of them with the swing in almost all the constituencies being massively in Tories favour, even in the seats Labour have retained the Tory swing is quite often 6-8% with Labour being the major loser of votes in most cases with Lib Dem and others being fairly equal to last election.

But this is the problem, because so many people simply vote the same party no matter what, Brown could have raped, murdered and eaten 500 children, Labour would still get 20% of the vote, if he's just had a bad time in office, Labour will get 25-30% with relative ease because thats how life is.

It would be great if every election 100% of the votes are up for grabs and everyone will make a rationed decision, learn all the policies and vote for who best fits them and what will be best for the country. Thats not how life is, I know a half dozen people in my family who know NOTHING about whatever party they vote for and simply said, "i'm voting for X because I always have" .

The swing to Tories, the seats gained and the fact they will clearly be the biggest party is completely clear its a complete victory with the people who pay attention all leaving Labour for Tory. The problem is they were so far behind, they haven't won quite enough seats, but if the current predictions are accurate, its one of the biggest swing in seats ever 94-100seats gained in any other election would have been a majority easily.

Agreed, plus with the Northern English cities as well, the swing is appearing skewed. Still think the key gain so far has been Kingswood (where my parents live). Old constituancy of Wansdyke (quite rural) pre-1997 was Tory, then went NuLab. Now with redrawn boundaries to combine the old Wansdyke seat with the more urban (leftie) Kingswood, and its massive Tory swing..
 
Noob question...

The majority of the people on my Facebook are very anti-Tory and because I really know nothing about politics, I was just wondering why this is? The majority, if not all are students. Are the Tories very anti-student or something? I know Tories favour the rich but that is all i know... :o
