I think we're more likely to get major constituency reshaping for more even representation

Now if we can throw in party funding reform and Scottish Independance in to the mix too we may finally get rid of the Labour party as we know it. :)

Why don't we just vote again until some one has a majority instead of all this coalition rubbish.

If people wanted Tories in power they would have a majority right now, but they don't.

I cannot see why in the world Clegg would take this offer really.

Cameron has basically cut off any notion of electoral reform and gone on to say for the Lib Dems part in the coalition they'd effectively have no power because almost without exception he made it clear Tory policy would take precedence.

I can't really see the upside for the Lib Dems in that offer.

Indeed, it's because cameron doesn't really want PR and want to run a minorty government

He's stuck between a rock and a hard place now.
Go with Labour and look really really bad, and will do badly in the next election
Go with Tories and get almost nothing he wants (espically PR!)

In a moment of irony, it's actually the libdems which are the biggest losers ...and who probably currently have the most power!

Not by any real metric. They "lost" by not being as popular as the Cleggmania fans thought they would be. An increase in the voting share by 1% compared to the Labour loss of 6.3% and a loss of seats of 8% compared to the Labour loss of 25% of their seats.

On an unrelated note, given that Sunderland managed to count their votes in some 40 minutes, why has St Ives and a couple other places failed to count them over 12 hours later?

A number of reasons:

1. Sunderland is a stunt. Most places aren't willing to waste money on such a stunt.
2. Sunderland is a (geographically) small constituency with generally low turnout. That makes it easier to count quickly, larger constituency, and those with higher turnouts are always going to take longer.
3. Recounts mean things take much longer when they occur
4. A few places (such as Bethnal Green) chose to perform additional validation checks before counting.
5. A few places (such as Buckingham) chose not to count 'til morning to save money.

And probably a few others.

An opportunity to help run the country rather than be an annoying buzz of noise at the back? Outside general elections (unless you are in a libdem constituency) no one hears about the LibDems.

Basically 'We want to work with you, if you abandon half your key principles and we make hardly any compromise'

If the Lib Dems take this offer it will make mugs of their voters and destroy their long term support surely :(

i think siding with labour will destroy more support.

I don't think many will vote lib next year if they know it's just a vote for labour.

Gordon Brown is a moron, I hope he doesn't dig in and make everything stupidly awkward.

Conservatives have proven they deserve a good chance of governing the country, and I think its fair to say the vast majority of the public want them to try it.

There is no doubt in my mind they will do far far better than Labour.

God knows what Nick Clegg is doing.

Oh, try not to turn this thread into too much of a mud slinging match, no real need for it :p

An opportunity to help run the country would be great but Cameron just made it clear that they'd have to abandon virtually all their key policies so what good would that 'power' really be to them?

yes but they may have a better offer.

I really cannot see the lib dems letting this chance go.

The percentage of the total vote between Labour and Lib Dems is not that much, lets be honest.

I was working at a Polling Station yesterday and spoke with MANY Libs and not a SINGLE PERSON was "offended" by a Lab/Lib coallition.
