Hey alex! Interesting read.. I'm thinking about going ssd in the nearish future - will have to let us know how you're getting on with the crucial next week, after a bit more usage - be interested in the long term health of the drive

hey man long time no speak! yeh it's a sweet setup... took a while to get working as you can see but it was worth the effort. still not convinced these write speeds are up to scratch but i'm really noticing a massive day-to-day difference in speeds. just being able to boot up and down in a few seconds is great in itself.
i'll see how things go over the coming months, especially when crucial sort out this firmware debacle!

The 128GB drive is specced as the following Read: Up to 355MB/sec, Write: Up to 140MB/sec, your speeds are bang on.

I want to raid0 two 80gb intel ssd's. I currently have the asus rampage iii extreme motherboard. Do i need to buy a raid controller or will my motherboard support raid for these ssd?

Yup, only the 256GB Crucial has circa 200MB writes I believe, http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1221/12/
The 256GB is really quite significantly faster in writes than the 128GB unfortunately, I think unless you go for the massive one a Sandforce drive probably ends up faster. THe single 4kb reads match the 256GB drive but it really struggles when queue depth is increased in terms of keeping up with its bigger brother.
Tis a shame as for me 256GB is just nuts money right now, 64-128GB is where its at for getting SSD's and making your system feel more instant and responsive. Though the price per GB doesn't change much going up to 256gb, when the prices finally crash on SSD's they'll lose so much value that limiting that loss by getting something cheaper right now is the smart way to go.
Still awesome performance obviously and you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between that and a Sandforce anyway. Its so odd that the drives can benchmark so close in so many area's, lots of benchmarks come up with great I/O numbers for the Crucial yet in real world benchmarks the Sandforce seems to edge it in many area's.
THough I think one reason for that is some hdd benchmarks are just FAR to old and really don't show anything like realworld usage anymore.
