GCSE's coming up, any tips??

It's easy to say that, but if you're recommending doing nothing but revising for a week then they certainly will be stressed.

it's easy to do that too.

They're GCSE's as long as you get a c in English and maths that's all anyone cares about.

7 B's and C from what I can remember.

Don't really remember doing much revision, just spread around trying to get some knowledge.

B + C + (U:p) in my A-levels.

Pffft now you're asking, cant remeber now. I went for a job and they wanted confirmation that I had maths and english GCSE, I managed to convince them that doing A levels and a degree trumps them.

I remember I got a double B in science and an A and an A* in english. B in geography, think those were my best grades!

Oh got 3 Ds in A levels! Didnt revise again.

Still, got a first at degree level so all is well!

Revise them all.

When you're older though, depending on what career you're looking at, you might need to have strong Maths, English and/or Science.

Generally a C and above in the core subjects are all anyone cares about, but some 'top' companies will demand - especially if they were financial for example - B in Maths or above.

If you want to go to Oxbridge, you ideally want to get amazing GCSEs now.

As has been said, it's obviously a new experience to you, but by the time you come to do university education, you'll realise just how easy they were in terms of examination.

Don't stress, don't procrastinate. Be strict with yourself and put the effort in now. It will pay off.

Revise, but don't do any revision the night before or in the morning before the exam.

Depends on how you revise.

I always try and revise a few weeks before an exam and I sit there and nothing goes in! When it starts getting close to the exam my revision really progresses and everything starts to go in. My most effective revision is done the night before and on the morning of the exam.

Put most of your effort into the core 3 subjects: maths, english, and science(s), and also into any subjects you'll be carrying on to A-level. Core subjects as there are often minimum required GCSE grades for University courses.

Overall, don't stress too much though, just revise your books, and look at past papers.

Hey, I have my GCSE's coming up probably with a few others on here, first exam is in 8 days  and just wanted to know if there are any important tips from anyone?? :)

thanks, icy

I'm doing GCSES too. My first is in 8 days too, I think :(

Got core science and maths out of the way last year
I don't feel prepared.

What subjects are you doing? Which book are you doing for english? What grades are you aiming for?

Me personally, I'm only revising for subjects that are before half term at the moment.

Got my first exam that really matters on the 27th, Further Pure 1. Need to get a nice solid 80%+ in it so I can cruise through with 65%+ in FP2,3,4. :)

Starting revision later today.

How confident are you in geography? I think it's an easy subject, and personally, I reckon anyone could get at least a B without even studying the syllabus.

Are you doing the 4 way comparison in English? I haven't even learnt the poems yet

Just revise and give yourself plenty of time and you'll be fine :)

Also take short breaks after every hour of revision so your mind has a chance to absorb what it is you've told it, any longer and generally most people find it harder to remember information they've learnt. I guess doing a Psychology degree helps sometimes :p

Geography is easy, eh?

Hehe. Alright, I'll conceed that the GCSE is easy. Anyone can get a D/E without revising, but for C+ you really want to show a bit of brain-power and common-sense.

It's a very different subject come A-Level though.

Learn your case-studies and remember to play devil's advocate when discussing issues so you have both sides of the story. Critical thinking will take you far!

Oh, and I did 'Of Mice and Men' for GCSE. I enjoyed that book.

yeh im good in geog, and yeh B is pretty easy without any knowledge, just common sense, however, for our spec we need to know casestudies as this is where most marks are :/, i know a few but thats what i find i really need to revise. With the poems yeh we are :/, thats probs the most boring part of english and hardest as i find it hard to find more than one thing the 4 poems have in common :p

yeh cool thanks for the heads up :), yeh i tend to do a past paper (or upto an hour's worth if its more) in each go, or if revising i tend to revise for 45 minutes.

yeh i like Of Mice and Men, good book :)

GCSEs are too easy, you can get straight Cs at least without revising. Bs with a little revision, and decent As with a few weeks of decent revision. Tbh, they never really matter unless you're looking at Oxford/Cambridge.

Make sure you do the right questions as well. I remember in my geography GCSE exam there were 8 or 9 questions in the paper, and we were only supposed to do 2 or 3 of them. Some students didn't pay attention and did every question even the ones that we hadn't studied in lessons!
